Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

National Sorry Day: Today, May 26th, is National Sorry Day. National Sorry Day marks the anniversary of the tabling of the Bringing them Home report in the Australian Parliament in 1997. The report detailed the history of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, often referred to as the Stolen Generations, under laws enacted by Australian governments. National Sorry Day is also the anniversary of the day when the formal apology was given in parliament by the then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in 2008.  For further information please find details through the following link: NATIONAL SORRY DAY - May 26, 2023 - National Today

May 26th also marks the start of the yearly National Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Pyjama Day: Thank you to the families who help their children participate in the fundraiser on Wednesday to raise money for the Exford PS Community. We took a total of $1102, which will pass onto the school. I was really impressed with the children’s involvement and the generosity of our school community in supporting another school in need. The road ahead for the children, and their families affected is long, as is the impact on the rest of the school community. I know they will be very grateful for our school’s contribution. Thank you.

Semester 1 Student Reports: Staff have begun working on the students’ Semester 1 academic reports. These will be sent home on the first day of term 3 because Term 2 is a short term (only 9 weeks). Parent Teacher Interviews will be held during the first week of term 3. Information about booking a time will be available shortly.

King’s Birthday Public Holiday/Curriculum Day: Friday 9th June is our next Curriculum Day, where teachers will have the opportunity to work on the student reports as well as working on Staff Wellbeing. Staff wellbeing is an important area of development because when our wellbeing is good, we are in the best position to support all our students to be the best they can be. Monday 12th June is a Public Holiday celebrating the King’s Birthday across Australia. This means our students have a 4 day weekend.

National Consistent Collection of Data for Students with a Disability (NCCD): Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.dese.gov.au/about-us/resources/department-education-skills-and-employment-complete-privacy-policy-0).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
