Health Industry Immersion Day
Last Monday, around 30 students from Brentwood attended the Health Industry Immersion Day at Holmesglen Moorabbin. The day was filled with countless opportunities to see and experience what it was like to be involved in the health industry. This was led by many health professionals, medical students, and their teachers.
We were presented with a case study of a patient and later connected the case study with the skills that we learnt during the day through various activities. We got to experience different areas of health, such as a live simulation of what it’ll be like to transfer patients before and after nursing shifts, as well as CPR and patient support. We also had the opportunity to simulate a pathology laboratory, where students were able to draw plasma from blood and carry out urinalysis in the pathology lab.
Throughout the day, we were given the chance to listen to a panel of health professionals and teachers from different fields. Many went through the career pathways and courses that are available, as well as giving us more information in a small expo.
I would strongly recommend this experience for students who are interested in health care as this event was worthwhile, not only did we experience and simulate the health care industry, but we also had countless hands-on activities for us to learn and try. Holmesglen offers various courses related to health, such as the Certificate III in Pathology Collection.
Thank you to Mr Kalva, Mrs. Mackay, and Ms. Dowling for coming along with us!
