Animal Science elective

Students in the Animal Science elective have been practicing their animal bandaging techniques on each other. They had to practice a bandage for an ear wound and support a hind leg after a hip injury. They all had lots of fun being, ‘injured!’

Students in Animal Science got to experience what it is like to work in the medical field. Sam, our very talented lab technician produced a design to mimic an arm vein for students to place an IV line. It was a very close simulation with an outer jelly mould acting like the body tissue, and a red vein running in the middle. Students learnt the technique to place an IV line and then inject green food dye, confirming they were in the correct location. It was a lot of fun plus; they were all successful in finding the vein!!
