Term 2 Sports Report

Mr De Nardis - PE & Sport Teacher

Term 2 is coming to a close, but before we go off to enjoy a well-earned break, I hope to recognise and celebrate the remarkable sporting achievements of our talented students throughout the past term. It is with great pleasure that we acknowledge their dedication, perseverance, and outstanding sportsmanship demonstrated during a variety of sporting events.

From competitive tournaments during Years 5 and 6 round robins to friendly matches, our students have consistently displayed their passion for sports and their commitment to personal and team success. Whether it was on the field, court, track, or swimming pool, our athletes have demonstrated exceptional talent and represented our school with pride.

First, I would like to extend my gratitude to the teachers, coaches, parents and carers who have given up their time to volunteer at different events, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to our student athletes as well. Your contributions have played a vital role in shaping their success, both on and off the field.

In Term 2, our 5/6 sports teams competed in AFL, Soccer, Tee Ball, and Netball. In total, over 120 students participated and every single one should be super proud of the efforts they demonstrated. From the Round Robin that was played in Term 2, our Girls' Soccer team, Mixed AFL and AFLW teams all won their competitions and have progressed to the next round, which will be hosted early in Term 3.

I would also like to congratulate both Rupert and Marcus on their efforts with the state AFL tryouts. Rupert was unfortunately unwell in the final round of the tryouts and was unable to continue through to the team. Marcus has been offered and accepted a spot in the Victorian State AFL team. Marcus will play in a carnival later this year against the best 12 and under footy players from across Australia. We wish him all the best.

Our house cross country was held at the start of the term. Well done to all runners for participating and cheering on their house. Congratulations to MURPHY (green) house for winning the house cup & LEWIS (red) house for winning the house spirit award.

Special mentions go to the following students that not only won their events but also broke the school record:

Ava L - Year 6 - 12/13 girls

Frankie H - Year 5 - 11 girls

Joel B - Year 4 - 8/9/10 boys

The top 8 students from each age group then progressed to the next level, which was held at Dendy Park. Everyone ran and performed as well as anyone could have asked of them and each student who competed for EPS should be very proud of themselves. 19 students went on to represent Elsternwick PS & our school division at the district event.

The District event was held a few weeks ago at Bald Hill park. The EPS runners did a magnificent job at this event. A special congratulations to Frankie Year 5, Maia Year 5, Isabelle Year 6 & Ava Year 6 who went on to the regional event at Hastings.

On Wednesday, 14th June 4 students Frankie, Maia, Isabelle & Ava represented EPS at the Regional Cross Country event. These students should be very proud of themselves for reaching this event - what a great achievement. Congratulations to Ava who finished 4th, Isabelle who finished 7th & Frankie who finished 3rd who will now run at the State competition which is held early in Term 3. I know the whole school will get behind these students and support them as they compete in that race to make it to the national level.

Finally, we have had a number of students complete their 300km aim during the term - Angus T Year 4, Felix Year 5 and Marcus R, Klara W and Hugo from Year 6. Jack K from Year 6 has also completed 400km this term. All these efforts are huge and should be celebrated as most of these students have been working on these distances since Prep when they started at EPS for the first time.

I look forward to seeing what Term 3 brings, from house athletics to state competitions and more interschool sports. It's going to be a big term. Good luck to everyone!

Yours in sport,

Mr D
