Almost done with Term 2, last day being Friday, the 23rd of June.

It has been exciting to see the building extension on Chirnside and other building works around the school, which is a great asset for future learning at Tarneit Senior College.

There are many SACs planned coming to the end of semester, Year 11s completing Unit 1 and year 12s completing Unit 3 beginning Unit 4 this term.

Year 10 and 11 students have their exams coming up starting from the 5th to the 16th of June, good luck. The GAT, General Achievement Test is upcoming on the 15th of June for all year 12 students and year 11s completing a 3&4 subject.

Year 10 work experience week commences from the 19th of June to the 23rd of June which is a great opportunity to look into jobs of your interest and passion, which you may want to pursue in the future.

Year 12 Formal is coming up quickly on the 21st of June.

DRAMA

On 25th of May, Year 11 and 12 students went to Theatre Works in StKilda to watch the play ‘Moth’ for their SAC and Exam. Moth includes only two Actors who play the roles of numerous characters. The main characters are Sebastian who is terminally unpopular with an overactive imagination who spirals into schizophrenic delusions and believes a moth that mysteriously appeared next to his bed was going to help him save humankind and Claryssa who is an emo Wiccan art-freak and Sebastian's only friend.

LEADERSHIP CAMP

From the 17th to the 19th of May, the Student Leaders went on a camp designed by Odyssey House Youth and Family Services to Queenscliff. With a packed schedule including many museums and team building and collaboration activities, all the Student Leaders who attended enjoyed it and made many memories. The camp was such a positive and fun experience with such an amazing group of people. From uno, trivia and games night to random adventures during free time and several museums learning about history and how our world has changed.

I really enjoyed the ghost tour. It was a good mix of scary and suspense while still being informed on the history of the building and its past.

Camp was really fun with all the activities we did. My favourite activity that we did was going to Old Geelong Gaol and going on the ghost tour. Overall, the experience was awesome.

Camp was a great experience. Much fun making new friends and exploring different places while learning so much.

The leadership camp was an experience that I’ve never had before. It really helped me build a connection with my fellow leaders through fun activities such as the Geelong jail and develop new ideas to better our school.

The thing I can say I enjoyed most coming out of the camp was having been able to meet and get to know all the other Student Leaders in such a nice environment outside of school. As well as having moments of bonding with the School Staff Team which you wouldn't traditionally have in a typical classroom.

The Student Leadership Camp was an amazing experience, there I met other leaders and created such an amazing bond with all of them. I loved all the activities like the Geelong jail or the student leadership activities, since it gave us an opportunity to learn about one another.

In the Student Leadership Camp, there were so many things to enjoy! We went to museums, learned cool things about sea animals, and there was even a ghost tour! My favourite activity was at the camp building. Some of us played games like Uno and Table Tennis, which was fun to do. The food that we had for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner was delicious and I'd definitely go to this camp again! 100% would recommend more events like this for not just the student leaders but for most of the school also!

WYNSPEAK 2023

Wynspeak is a youth public speaking competition for secondary students in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. It provided students with the opportunity to practice, test and showcase their public speaking skills against other schools in front of a live audience.

Participants can also win cash and progress to state and nationwide competitions. Wynspeak is run by Hoppers Crossing Apex and Rotary Club of Hoppers Crossing and is supported by Rotary Clubs of Altona City, Caroline Springs and Melton, and Toastmasters Club.

Wynspeak has two sections, the first is a prepared speech, and the second is a short notice speech, with the topic given to you on the night.

For my prepared speech, I spoke about identity, systemic racism and not living by labels. The topic I received for my Short Notice speech was ‘Would I rather a pool or an amusement park at school’.

I personally enjoy the short notice section as you can have fun with it and showcase humour and personality. I have been lucky to win my rounds short notice section 2 years in a row.

This year I won the prepared speech section in my heat, going to finals on the 2nd of June.

I encourage everyone to consider giving Wynspeak a go, as it is a great way to meet people from other schools and improve confidence in public speaking in a supportive environment. Doing Wynspeak can help not only within school but with anytime you need to speak to people such as work, meetings and job interviews.
