National Simultaneous Storytime - Wednesday 24 May 2023

Solway will be participating in the National Simultaneous Storytime event which promotes the value of reading and literacy. 

Each year, an Australian children’s book is chosen to be read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, homes and bookshops all over Australia. The 2022 NSS was the biggest year on record with over 2.18 million participants at over 59, 000 locations! This year’s chosen book is The Speedy Sloth, written by Rebecca Young, and illustrated by Heath McKenzie. 

Sorry Day - Friday 26 May 2023

To kick of National Reconciliation week, students in 5/6 will be learning Sorry Day as part of their Inquiry unit. To learn more about this historic event, students will be reading the book ‘Sorry Day’ by Coral Vass and Dub Lefler and learning more about the Stolen Generations.

Did you know students at Solway Primary School have access to a Reading Eggs and Reading Eggpress login that can be used at school and at home? ABC’s Reading Eggs provides Reading Activities, a Reading library which can be used to supplement our take home books, Spelling games, and the new addition of Fast Phonics. Wushka – For students in P-2, they also have access to Wushka which is an online digital library. This platform provides students with a levelled and decodable library. Please ask your teacher for more information or QR code if you require it.
