Health & Wellbeing

This term our whole school is focusing on the value of RESPECT. At Solway we acknowledge that it is the responsibility of all staff, students and community members to demonstrate the respect of school equipment and each other in and around school.

As well as exploring and discussing with our students what respect looks like, it is an expectation that we are also modelling this value between one another.

To help facilitate this, we ask that you have a conversation with your child/ren around what RESPECT looks like to them and reinforce expected behaviours. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Taking turns
  • Sticking to our own personal space and avoiding physical contact with other students
  • Listening to others, even when we disagree
  • Allowing others to speak
  • Freely expressing who they are and allowing others to do the same
  • Being courteous.
  • Thinking before you speak, taking note of language and tone
  • Assisting without being asked
  • Practicing compassion
  • Doing as you are asked without argument
  • Showing that you are ready to learn
  • Listening carefully and following instructions
  • Wearing your uniform as requested
  • Showing consideration in the corridor
  • Sitting where you are asked to in class
  • Telling a member of staff if there is a problem with another student.
  • Speaking calmly
  • Thinking before you speak
  • Speaking politely to other students
  • Keeping quiet if you have nothing pleasant to say
  • Keeping ‘street language’ out of school
  • Following our school rules
  • Following our class norms
  • Using equipment for its intended purpose
  • Asking before borrowing
  • Returning borrowed items in their original condition

Staff will be handing out raffle tickets to students displaying this value. Bendigo Bank is sponsoring our RESPECT raffle with prizes from the Leaf bookshop. The raffle will be drawn on Friday 16 June.
