Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

At SFS, our school expectations are:

Respect, Responsibility and Kindness

This week we have continued to focus on the expectation of Responsibility - Engage and persevere with all tasks. We have focused on staying on task and clarifying instructions with the students if needed, so that they can complete the task.

It has been lovely to see the children getting so excited and proud to receive an acknowledgement card and then some children getting their names drawn on a Friday. Some children have chosen to come dressed in casual clothes on Monday and some have chosen to have some free time in the afternoon. If your child brings a card home, please sign the card so your child can return it and put it in the box so they might win the weekly prize. If you can, have a chat your child about why they received the acknowledgement card and what expected behaviour they were able to demonstrate. Well done to all the children who have been showing our school wide expected behaviours.

SFS Twilight Community Market

We are excited to have our annual Twilight Community Market. This year it will be held on Thursday 9th November 2023. The market will run from 5 to 8pm

If you or someone you know has a small business you would like to promote, please complete one of the expression of interest forms that you will find in this week’s newsletter.

You can also pick up a form and complete it at the front desk at the school office. The cost of a stall is just 20 dollars. Maybe you can come up with an idea with your family or something you can make and sell at the market.

Put the date in your diary and tell your family and friends. Let’s make this year’s market the best one ever! I have already locked in a variety of stalls from toys, clothes, candles and plants and lots of yummy food trucks.

If you are able to donate a prize or goods that we may be able to raffle that we be greatly appreciated too. For more information or inquiries, please contact me at rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

If you are interested in having a stall, please let me know ASAP as I am going to finalise the stalls for the market

Wellbeing Day with a focus on Child safety including Walk safely to school day

On Monday 5th June the whole school will be having a special wellbeing day with a focus on Child safety. This is crucial as Child safety is always at the forefront of all we do at SFS. The school must adhere to 11 Child safe standards that help create and maintain a child safe organisation and protect students from all forms of abuse. On this day, we have a theatre company called Brainstorming Productions who will be performing a play called “Zanna and the Lost Code”.

There will be a junior and senior performance of the show, tailored to meet the needs of the age group of the students. The teachers will look at the Child safe standards with the students in child friendly language. All activities for the day will have a focus on safety. We will also collect some data on the day about the student’s wellbeing to get a sense of how they are tracking and identify any wellbeing issues we may need to address.

Zanna and the Lost code

When Zanna and Eddie arrive at coding camp, they embark on a magical journey into the Camp Captain's new online game for kids. Through a series of exciting challenges, Zanna and Eddie experience the power of empathy, respect, kindness and assertive communication. They discover that we all have the power to make the internet a safer and more positive place.

'Zanna & the Lost Code' is developed in collaboration with teachers and psychologists and aligned with key outcomes from the Australian and Victorian Curriculum. The show is designed to spark conversations about bullying, cyber safety and resilience amongst our students.

Brainstorm Productions is one of Australia’s most experienced and respected theatre in education companies, performing to over 260,000 students every year. They offer a range of programs to help schools nurture healthy and harmonious environments and are endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner as a Trusted eSafety Provider. Learn more about Brainstorm Productions by visiting their website (brainstormproductions.edu.au), or following them on Instagram (@brainstormproductions_) or Facebook (@Brainstorm.Productions).

We will also be having Walk safely to school day on this day. The annual campaign encourages all primary school children, their parents and carers to walk safely and regularly to school. The event seeks to promote road safety, health, public transport and the environment. The objectives of National Walk Safely to School Day are:

  • To encourage parents and carers to walk regularly with their children, all or part of the way to school.
  • To promote the health benefits of walking and create regular walking habits.
  • To help children develop vital road crossing skills and ensure children up to the age of 10 years hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road.
  • To reduce car dependency and traffic congestion, especially around schools.
  • To reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles.
  • To promote the use of public transport.

At SFS we will celebrate this day on Monday 5th June. We encourage as many children as possible to walk to school or at least part of the way to school on this day. We will have 2 meeting points where we will have a walking school bus lead by some teachers. Parents can either drop their children off at this meeting point and walk to school with the staff or join the staff and walk to school with your children. When we arrive at school we will make our way to the school oval and do a lap of the oval. The two meeting points are:

  • The Lynbrook Community Centre
  • Figtree Reserve (corner of Alymer Rd and Waterbrush Crescent)

We will meet at these two points at 8 am and will be ready to leave by 8.10 am.

Let’s get healthy together and walk to school!
