Middle Years News

News from Years 6-9

Morrisby Report

Morrisby Career Testing is completed by all Year 9 students and is scheduled to take place on Monday 29 May. A Morrisby Parent Information Briefing Night is being held on Tuesday 30 May online via Teams. The purpose of the report is to look at a broad range of individual student attributes, areas of interest and strengths. The aim is to help students make informed decisions about their study options and identify potential career paths. It is a collaborative approach including students, their parents as well as the College. Mrs Nolan, Careers Coordinator will lead this program for our Middle Year Students. This is the second time we will be running this program in Year 9. In addition to assisting our Year 9 cohort in helping shape their preferred pathway, students in Years 7 and 8 will be introduced to elements of pathway options and opportunities later in the year.

Middle Years Wellbeing

Students are engaged in their ‘Wellio’ Pastoral Care programs in Years 6 – 8. This wellbeing program aims to provide our Middle Year students with a ‘back-pack’ of skills and strategies to draw upon in order to help manage social/emotional regulation, as well as academic and spiritual growth.

The next Rite Journey (Year 9) camp day will take place in Week 8 of this Term focussing on collaboration, perseverance and encouragement at our nearby You Yangs. The exciting activities will include a rotation of hiking, abseiling and mountain bike riding.

MYP Community Project

Year 9 students have been working through the process of preparing themselves for their MYP Community Projects. Fortnightly sessions are dedicated to this ‘Learning and Action’ project which guides them through a process of research, analysis and actioning their specific focus (Advocacy, Direct Service, Indirect Service and Research) for a chosen need in the community. Throughout this learning journey, students meet regularly with a teacher mentor to gain further insights and seek guidance.

Performing Arts

On Wednesday evening 30 of our fabulous Performing Arts students from Mrs Yengi’s Year 9 Drama class, and the cast of  the upcoming Senior Years College production of 'Clue: On Stage'', travelled to the Regent Theatre to see a performance of the Australian premiere production of Romeo and Juliet.

Romeo and Juliet is a new musical that mixes literary history and the genius of William Shakespeare with an incredible array of some of the most well-known pop music hits of recent history. Students came away wowed, inspired, and ready to take on the stage in the coming weeks in their own show.
