National Simulutaneous Storytime 2023

I had the absolute pleasure of reading to some of our children on National Simultaneous Storytime Day. National Simultaneous Storytime always occurs on the last Wednesday in May. In 2023, teachers and students all around Australia settled down with their books on 24 May at 11 a.m. to read a book simultaneously! This year we read “The Speedy Sloth” and it was a big hit here at Monash. Reading to children is such a wonderful activity to create a bond, increase engagement and instil a love of learning.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. We commemorated it this week at school through a variety of different activities. We now have a beautiful piece of Art work in the Admin corridor that was created by the students in group 16. It was influenced by Aboriginal artists, The Tjanpi Desert Weavers. Well done Felix, Georgina, Claudi, Krishraj, Oliver and Wajahat!

Capital Works Update

As you will have seen the car park is well under way and the outside play areas are being prepared. There has been a little delay due to weather and supply of materials as is the case across Australia but at this stage we should have a top car park and a new building by the start of term. Not long to go now! Please note that once this is handed over there will no longer be access to the main car park for drop offs and pick-ups. All parents whose children do not come by bus will need to either park in the new top car park or offsite and walk in. There are future plans in the pipeline to make the area where the relocatables are in the corner into another car park. Watch this space! Can I again thank our families who have showed so much patience and understanding as we have gone through this process. I can assure you it will be worth it!

Staffing

We have just gone through another set of interviews and I am now hopeful, pending some paperwork, that we will have all our classes with a teacher by the beginning of term 3. It has been a lengthy process that has required significant effort but we are nearly there! I will be in touch with the families who have showed incredible patience while we get there and hopefully be able to announce to our school community in the last newsletter of the term our new staff.

Thank you everyone!
