Last Friday we were lucky enough to have three firefighters visit us from the Preston Fire Station. We learned all about different types of fires and what to do if we came across a fire - "crawl down low and GO GO GO". We even had a practice of this! The firefighters showed us their special firefighter uniform that protects them when they are out extinguishing fires.
We are so excited for the second visit where we will be up close to the big red fire truck!

Teddy's Birthday Celebration!
While the Year 2/3/4s were off exploring the city, the Year 1s were back at school celebrating a very special birthday! It was Teddy's Birthday! Teddy has been a special part of Ava's life since she was a little girl. After the experience, the Year 1s recounted the special event in their writing. Here is what Tazlyn had to say:
On Thursday the Grade 1s were celebrating at school. First, we sung Happy Birthday to Teddy. Next, we had party bags. In the party bags there was chocolate and lolly pops. Finally, we danced to music. It was a nice day! By Tazlyn
Year 2/3/4s City Excursion!
Last week the Year 2/3/4 students went on an excursion to learn more about Melbourne as part of the Inquiry Topic 'Community and Me.' We visited the Flagstaff Gardens, Queen Victoria Market, The Victorian State Library and China Town.
Firstly, we would like to thank our wonderful parent helpers who volunteered their time to help make the day a success. Your enthusiasm, patience and vigilance did not go unnoticed. We could not have done it without you!

Our Awesome Trip to the City By Kaiden and Mia
The Grade 2/3/4s had an awesome trip to the city. First we got out of school. Then we went on the train. It was so cool when we looked out the window. The train went so fast. When we go off the train, we saw lots of fruit shops. We got to buy apples and bananas. Kaiden's favourite part was the train! Mia's favourite part was the entire day!
A Day Off To The City By Luke and Aylah
On the trip to the city we went exploring with the Grade 2/3 and 4s. We walked around with a Grade 3 or 4 and some parents and teachers. First we walked to Bell Station to catch the train and then we walked to the playground where we sat down to eat recess and we played for a while. At the State Library we sat down to eat our lunch and had some jam doughnuts! Finally, we walked around Chinatown. We saw lanterns hanging from wires. Then we walked back to the train station and walked passed a garden pond and little waterfall. We caught the train and came back to Sacred Heart. When we came home on the train we passed the MCG. We loved it all so much that we didn’t have one favourite part, but we definitely would go back to the Library. The trip made everyone feel so happy and excited. It felt like a rainbow in our hearts.
I loved the city because I haven't gone to the city in a long time. It was fun talking to my friends. Katalina

State Library Play By Denise
Suddenly I could hear loud laughter and cheering as we were waiting to visit the Children’s Section of the State Library. When I turned to see what was happening there was a group of students rolling over and over, down the hill in front of the Library. The grass was wet and muddy in parts, but the huge grins and laughter told me how much the students were enjoying themselves. I watched as they repeatedly rolled down the hill, picked themselves up and raced back to the top and went again. It was a lovely moment in a great excursion.
The Amazing Victorian State Library By Nirav
As I went into the Victorian State Library, it was dead silent. I was flabbergasted by the books around me; they were full of knowledge. The dome was colossal, the architecture was really unique and the marble floor was soft and smooth. It was an extraordinary sight!!!
The Amazing Walk at Chinatown By Isabella
I had an amazing day in the city and one of those moments was walking through the streets of Chinatown! I saw lots of amazing restaurants and the food smelt divine! There were lots of pretty lanterns, representing the culture. There were also lots of friendly people. The statues and buildings were beautiful. It was a wonderful experience!
TRAIN RIDE By Roman
When we were on the train I could hear people reading, chatting and people talking on the phone. When I took a look at what was happening there were people reading, playing cards and a Rubiks cube. The train ride felt so long. I was so bored because I had nobody to talk to.
The Stinky Smell from the Meat and Fish Stalls By Allie
When I first walked into the Meat and Fish section at the Queen Victoria Market, straight away I felt a strong overwhelming smell from the meat. I saw everyone, with a disgusted look on their face, block their nose. I knew it was because of the fish and meat!!!
The Playground at Flagstaff By Aleisha
Suddenly I heard the sound of people talking and laughing very loudly when we were having recess. We were at the Flagstaff playground, there were so many things like a swing but with four swings instead of one, a spider web and a sandpit. We all had fun playing at the park on the excursion to the city!!!
State Library Playground By Callix
I was so excited, I couldn't wait for the playground in the library. When we went inside everyone suddenly ran where they wanted to go. I saw people laughing everywhere but some were knocking the big blocks down. I felt happy building blocks, I was able to make things float because of how sturdy they were. I loved the excursion.
State Library Victoria By Sai
When we visited the Victorian State Library, it was huge and quiet. In the library there was lots and lots of books, so that was why we couldn't count them all. There were lots of people working and studying.
