Year 7 students recently engaged in a comprehensive social skills program designed to foster their understanding of Social Thinking. Over the course of weekly double sessions, they delved into the intricacies of interpersonal interactions, considering their own behaviour, emotions, and the impact they have on both, themselves, and others. These sessions aimed to cultivate the students' ability to empathize with others and adapt their behaviour accordingly, through the development of skills such as theory of mind, perspective-taking, self-awareness, body language, vocal tone, conversational proficiency, and assertiveness.

During the initial sessions, the students actively participated in various activities that allowed them to identify and understand their own emotions, as well as those expressed by others through body language. They also explored different strategies for managing their emotions through role-playing exercises. Additionally, they acquired knowledge on how to effectively prepare for camps or holidays, brainstorming and developing practical strategies to handle their emotions in real-life situations.

The program aimed to equip Year 7 students with essential life skills, empowering them to navigate social interactions with increased sensitivity and adaptability. By nurturing their understanding of Social Thinking, the sessions encouraged personal growth and fostered a positive and inclusive social environment within the school community.
