In Reading the year 3’s have been working on numerous different reading strategies such as synthesizing, making connections and summarising while exploring texts that link to their humanities unit about Australian and Indigenous history.
Through our writing unit we have been writing narratives ensuring we follow the writing process to produce a quality piece of writing. These narratives will include developed characters, settings, a problem and solution. We have also ensured we are making our writing interesting by including sizzling starts, dialogue and lot’s of other features of a narrative to ensure our audience stays engaged.
In Maths we have just wrapped up our multiplication unit and are beginning to explore division. We are are also learning about different units of measurement within mass and capacity along with understanding what it means to collect data and form good questions to do so.
In science we are exploring the differences between living and non living things looking more closely at animals. In health we are learning about what it means to be safe and understanding what is classified as safe or unsafe behaviours.
In humanities we have been learning about explorers. In partners we have been researching an explorer and their principle voyage. We have created presentations and speeches that we will present to the class as well as creating our very own quiz as part of our functional writing unit in writing. Our classmates will be completing our quiz after we have presented about our explorer to them.
Last week we went to the zoo, we loved when we got to see the reptiles. We also really enjoyed seeing the seals and the lion.
This term I have really enjoyed learning about division and multiplication and learning new ways to solve different questions.

The Year 4 students went on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum. They visited many different exhibitions, here are their recounts.
Dinosaur Walk and 600 Million Years Ago Exhibitions
The Dinosaur exhibit had lots of fossils. There were skeletons and bone structures that scientists believed dinosaurs looked like 65 million years ago. The exhibit showed materials that could not fossilize such as the plants, rocks, and footprints. We also learnt about how the tectonic plates have broken down and changed over the years.

First Peoples Exhibition
We arrived at the First Peoples exhibition in the Melbourne Museum on June 5th. We sat down on the floor where we were handed our booklets and pencils.
We saw many different displays such as, the Language Map, possum skin cloaks and the Diprotodon. We learnt lots of facts and answered questions in our booklets about how the First Peoples place and culture.

Melbourne Walk:
I liked walking and seeing the different Melbourne artefacts at the Museum. Phar Lap stood out to me because I liked reading and learning about his racing history and how he became a famous racehorse. There was a house that we got to explore. This house showed us how people lived years ago, and I liked how different it was compared to our houses that we live in today. The toilet was a hole outside! There was even an old Melbourne movie theatre and tram that we got to experience.

Hi all students and parents of year 6, this newsletter is to keep you updated of what we have been doing this term.
This term reading was superb, for the first half we read the Magicians Elephant and we wrote summaries about every chapter of the book. We are excited to watch the Netflix adaptation soon, I hope it’s as good as the book! After this narrative unit we started analysing biographies and identified the important parts. Both of these reading units really helped us in writing too.
On the other hand of the English subjects… writing! This was just as fantastic as we wrote narrative after narrative but each one got better and better. Then we wrote biographies this was an opportunity for us to learn about important people. Some people we researched and wrote about were formar Australian cricket captain Steve smith and Australian rules royalty Garry Ablett Senior.
In maths we were learning about operations. First came Addition and subtraction where we learnt different strategies in solving equations. Then we did multiplication which we are learning right now, the two strategies we are practicing to solve these are area model and vertical algorithm.
We also learnt how to be scientists by examining the causes and effects of Natural disasters such as volcanos, Tsunamis and earthquakes. It was cool to learn about earthquakes then experience two in the space of this term! Did you know volcanos and earthquakes are kind of related because they both are effects of tectonic plates moving!
In Humanities, we learnt about Australian history and big events. We also learnt how this effected our lifestyles and culture now. We are looking forward to our expo of our information and 3D visualisations that we made.
As this term ends we cannot wait for the extremely exciting term ahead and definitely cannot wait for year six camp where we go to Canberra!
