Principal News

It is hard to believe at the end of this week we will be half way through the school year. This term has been filled with many camps, incursions, excursions and learning. Although, it has been a shorter term, across the college we have managed to fit a lot in. A big thank you to our staff who put a lot of time and effort into making these events happen and to our students for their engagement and behaviour they displayed reflecting our school values.

We wish our students, staff and their families a safe and enjoyable school holiday break. Enjoy this time reconnecting with each other and preparing for another busy term ahead.

Exams

On Monday 19 June and Tuesday 20 June 2023, our Year 8 & 9 students participated in both the English and Maths exam. The exam period provides our students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and practise skills that are vital for their later years of schooling.

The exams were held in the gymnasium for the first time at Brookside College. The reason behind this is so we can continue to prepare our students for senior secondary exam conditions. During the 2 days of exams our students behaviour was exceptional. Exam results will be available to parents at the beginning of Term 3. A big thank you to Ms Jade Rapley and Mr Cody Stead for organising this exam period.

Our students had the opportunity the last week of term to spend their Brookside bucks! This has now become a time in the term both our students and teachers look forward to and is an opportunity to celebrate the term. The students have been collecting their superstar awards all term (and all year for some) so they were super excited to get in there and make their purchase!

Semester Reports

Staff have completed Semester Reports, which became available on Wednesday 21 June. As we are now in the full swing of ongoing reporting, parents and guardians will find that the Semester Reports will look different. In P-6, Semester Reports will need to be viewed alongside information provided on Seesaw. In Years 7-9, the reports will include all information that has been previously provided on submitted Learning Tasks. If you have any questions regarding your child’s semester report please contact their homegroup teacher.

Year 7 & 8 Camp

The Year 7 & 8 students returned from attending their individual camps within the last two weeks. The Year 7 camp was at YMCA Lake Dewar and the Year 8 camp was at Waratah Beach Camp. The camps provided a great opportunity for our students to build on the relationships they have established with their teachers and peers, while being in the outdoors and away from school. After speaking to some of our Year 7 students, food at camp was a hit also! Thank you to Mr Daniel Cooper (Year 7) and Mr Liam Ryan (Year 8) for organising and leading the camps.

Farewell Mrs Hackworthy

We farewell Mrs Monika Hackworthy, as she has been successful in picking up a position at Thornhill Park Primary School commencing next term.

Mrs Hackworthy has been an invaluable member of Brookside College during her 21 years here. She has inspired and grown our students with her many years of knowledge and experience.

We will miss Mrs Hackworthy dearly and wish her the very best as she embarks on this next new chapter in her career.

Ms Arpinder Chagger has been successfully appointed as the replacement teacher of 1B to commence in Term 3.  We welcome Ms Chagger to Brookside College, as she brings to our school her wealth of teaching experience.

Enjoy!
