Outside the Classroom
Year 8
We had a great start to the year, except for the snap lockdown! And now we don’t even have to wear masks anymore, which is great! Some things we did in Year 8 this term are the house carnival and the swimming and athletics carnivals which were a great way to earn some points for houses and to generally have a good time. The drama classes put on some really great performances and got students outside their comfort zones. In Home Group classes have been visiting Oxygen Youth Space which is an awesome local resource and good for us to see what is out there for us in the community. We also had the Year 8 celebration picnic this week which is a great way to finish the end of a good first term.
At our celebration assembly the following CHS Values awards were given, each with a Palace Cinema movie ticket for the lucky recipient.
Community - Henry C
Integrity - Zahraa R
Excellence - Ethan B
Curiosity - Emmanuel D
Lastly, 8A got the most green compass entries for the term and won themselves a pizza lunch on the last Wednesday.
Well done to all winners!!

Special shout outs to Tabby and Alex who were both awarded best speakers on the night! Also, special thanks to Melanie Buscema-Moore who volunteered to supervise students at the event when I was unable to attend. Fantastic work everyone!

Class Clowns Comedy
On Wednesday 24th March, 20 students from Years 8 - 11 were lucky enough to participate in a comedy workshop delivered as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Led by comedian Laura Trenerry, students participated in a series of improvisation games and exercises, which were presented in small performances throughout the workshop. They created tableaus, explored movement through characterisation and created a short 'news room' inspired skit. Our students conducted themselves so well and it was wonderful to see our young actors participating with such focus. Congratulations to all involved!
Choir Returns to CHS
Even after the lockdown was over in 2020 and we were all back at school, there were still government restrictions on singing inside.
Now, in 2021, the Choir is finally able to come back together, and welcoming a whole new group of students from Year 7.
The Choir is open to all students at CHS and rehearsals run each Monday lunchtime in The Space… join us.

Leadership Induction
On Wednesday Student Voice Leaders from across 7-11 attended a student leadership and voice induction afternoon. Students heard from Brent, the Acting Principal, about the importance that Coburg High places on student voice, agency and leadership, before breaking off into mixed year groups to discuss vision for student leadership at Coburg High. The session finished with students meeting in their year level teams to feedback positive experiences from Term 1, and to raise areas for potential improvement going forward. The session was productive and left all attendees feeling positive and empowered for the year ahead at Coburg High.

Library
CHS Reads: Book Bingo is up and running until September and for those who have already signed up for this amazing fundraising activity and have found sponsors, thank you. I am incredibly grateful and extremely impressed with the determination and the ambition shown so far by those students and staff raising money for this wonderful library of ours.
If you haven't already signed up there is still plenty of time to do so. Come on down to the library and put your name on the sign up sheet at your librarian’s desk and begin your Book Bingo journey.
If you are a parent, guardian or family member, you can also be involved by simply sponsoring one of these incredible students or staff members on their journey to completing this challenge. You can donate 50 cents or you can donate $50,000. Every cent adds up.
So, come on and let’s raise some funds for more books and equipment so we can create the most incredible reading culture here at Coburg High.
