Assessment & Reporting at Holy Spirit

At Holy Spirit School we support an ongoing approach to Assessment and Reporting in which we link curriculum and classroom practice with assessment.

Our Assessment and Reporting process has three facets.

  1. Progress Portfolio
  2. Formal Report
  3. Parent-Teacher interviews

Each term you will receive a combination of the above reporting procedures.

The Victorian Curriculum is the Foundation (Prep) to Year 10 Curriculum for all Victorian Government and Catholic schools, and provides guidelines for what to teach within our classroom environments here at Holy Spirit. The  Victorian Curriculum is designed as a learning continuum, allowing for the development of targeted learning within each classroom.  More information may be obtained from their website: http://victoriancurriculum.vcaa.vic.edu.au/

In line with Government schools in Victoria and M.A.C.S (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools - previously C.E.M.) we have been directed to assess students using a five point scale.

The assessment codes used in the Semester Reports and Progress Portfolios are as follows:

  1. Below the standard expected for this time of year
  2. Working towards the standard expected for this time of year
  3. At the Standard expected for this time of year
  4. Above the standard expected for this time of year
  5. Well above the standard expected at this time of year

Progress Portfolios

The Progress Portfolio is used as a continuous and sequential record of the student’s work over the school year.

This year our portfolios will move to an online space using Dojo Portfolios for Prep - Year 6. Student learning will be shared with you via the platform of Dojo Portfolios.

Over four weeks you will receive one learning sample, each week, via Dojo Portfolio. This learning piece will be the same subject area for each level and will be sent home in a gradual release model over the following weeks:

  • Week 9 in Term 1
  • Week 10 in Term 1
  • Week 1 in Term 2
  • Week 2 in Term 2

You will receive one learning sample, from your child, within the four specific subject areas of:

  • Education in Faith
  • English (Reading or Writing)
  • Mathematics
  • Inquiry Learning or Visual Arts

The student learning pieces may be in the form of text (writing), a photo or a video, and will contain: a Title of the learning piece, a Learning Intention and Success Criteria for the task and a teacher comment. This teacher comment will link specifically to the success criteria for the task, and will provide you with where this work sample is placed in relation to the 5-point scale of Below Standard, Working Towards Standard, At Standard, Above Standard and Well Above Standard.

The Progress Portfolio will provide you with a snapshot of your child’s learning progress. Parent comments are encouraged and appreciated and can be completed on each of the learning pieces that you receive via Dojo Portfolio.

Please take the time to read, enjoy, view and celebrate the digital portfolio pieces with your child. They have worked extremely hard on their learning this term and will be excited to share this time with you.

Have a great week everyone & Keep smiling!
