Launching the Spirit of Jesus Program in Years 3 and 4

The always inspirational Peter Mitchell spent last Tuesday morning in the Years 3 and 4 classrooms launching the Spirit of Jesus program for 2021.

The aims of the program are

  1. to enable a relationship with the Resurrected Jesus in the NOW of their nitty, gritty, daily lives.
  2. for the students to know they have grown as a person living the gospel messages of helping,  welcoming, including, friendship, love, encouraging, giving of self, kindness, compassion, and helping.

The responses of the students are evidence of the growing and learning that happened on the day.

Where did you see the SOJ in you and what was the Gospel value that you demonstrated in your story? I saw the SOJ in me when I.....

  • When I helped my sister learn her recorder (supporting)
  • When I put the dishes away at home without being asked (giving of myself)
  • When I smiled and held the door open for my classmate (kindness)
  • When I asked my classmate if she was OK  when she hurt her leg (compassion)
  • When I carried another student’s bag up to kiss and drop (helping friendship)

What small things can I do to be a better team player at home?

  • Saying thanks 4 times a day at home so I will be more grateful
  • Not moan and groan when I am asked to do something
  • Do OK with a smile and do it cheerfully
  • To be more cheerful at home and more pleasant to everyone
  • Listen to directions and don’t ignore my parents or backchat them
  • Be more positive, more helpful, more thankful and more helpful with the little things at home

What small things can I do at school and in my class to be a better team player at school?

  • Be more thoughtful of others, more patient around the lockers, and be more cheerful
  • Get ready in the morning...keep track of where you are at, be more kind and say sorry if I upset someone
  • Be more inclusive, more friendly and waiting for others and a personal good morning and good afternoon to the teachers
  • Be more mindful of others, polite and the way I Greet Treat and Speak to people (GTS)
  • Try and be more friendly to people who are not as friendly to me
  •  Saying thanks to kids in our class and using their name

What was your "Oh Yeah" moment or the point that really made sense to you?

  • That Jesus works through me in the little things we do and say each day
  • When the light went on in my mind that I am in charge of my attitude to people and life
  • My "Oh Yeah" moment was when I take my parents for granted and how much they do for me
  • That so many things in life are connected to the Spirit of Jesus
  • That I should feed the positive Spirit within me
