Materials Technology

The final five weeks of school in Term 4 has been a hive of activity in Materials Technology with lots of hands-on learning. Students were sewing, sawing and cooking whilst learning to use new tools and equipment, reading and follow instructions, and applying essential problem-solving skills. In these photos, merely a snapshot of one day in Week 8, Years 7, 8 and 9 Food students were cooking multicultural dishes such as the Indian Butter Chicken and Xmas gingerbread, and Cake Art cakes. In Textiles, the Year 7, 8 and 9 students were finishing off their monster cushions and boxer shorts, demonstrating their machining skills. In Materials, students were working on a variety of projects using various tools, plastic and timber. It has been a challenging few weeks but all students have excelled and should feel proud of their final creations despite their limited on site learning in Term 4.

On behalf of the Materials Technology Department, a big thank you goes to all students for their enthusiasm and application in learning new skills.  Warmest wishes to all our students and families for a safe happy and blessed Christmas.

Year 9 Textiles

Year 9s have sewn steadily all the way to the finish line this term, completing a pair of boxer shorts in record time! While learning from home earlier in the semester, students researched the life and work of pyjama designer, Peter Alexander, and constructed storyboards of their own pyjama designs. Since returning to onsite learning, students have mastered the use of the sewing machine and over-locker and learnt key sewing processes such as closed seams, hemming and creating a casing for elastic. Students embellished their shorts for a professional finish by adding lace trims and ribbons. A fabulous effort from everyone!

Cake Art

After an interrupted term, the Year 9 Cake Art students were finally able do some “hands on” cake decorating. It was a very busy term for the students, learning and practicing many of the different skills and techniques taught during the term.  They all worked with enthusiasm and creativity each week. During their final lesson, they were able to showcase their wonderful skills to produce their very own individual celebration cake.

Well done to all the Year 9 Cake Art students!!
