VCAL Barista Training

All VCAL students completed an Introduction to Coffee/Barista training on the 30th of November. The Intermediate VCAL students wrote the following:

Trish reflected

"What I enjoyed about this training is how we all get to drink different types of coffees and how all of them are different from one another. It was a struggle to like it since I am not a coffee drinker. But once I drank more coffee I became really used to drinking 8 different types of coffee in a day. But now the thing I didn't enjoy about the Barista training is how there's a lot of steps just to make a cup of coffee of your choice."

"I learned about how to make all these different coffees and how to use the coffee machine itself. I'm glad to have learnt this because now I'm going to have these skills for the rest of my life. Unforgettable experience! It was a lot of fun."

"The Barista Training that took place on Tuesday, 30th November was personally very enjoyable and helpful to me. I got to learn the origins of coffee and many new facts about it that helped me with the practical part of the training course. We got to make many drinks, such as; espresso, long black, cappuccino, latte, flat-white, hot chocolate and mocha. We started with the simpler drinks before progressing onto more complex ones. At first, I found it difficult to work the machine, but with some assistance, it became easier and increasingly more enjoyable. My favourite drink was the latte, as it wasn't as bitter as some of the other ones. Overall, I would love to do it again."

"This barista training was something very fun that will be so useful for when I get any job relating to coffee training ect. I want to get more experience in it so I will definitely be doing it again as I enjoyed it so much."

Julie reflected

"At first, I thought I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much but gradually became excited as we were going through the practical work. We started off with simple drinks and gradually added more complex drinks to the list. Overall it was an enjoyable course with the constant coffee aroma in the room."

"The Barista training I thought was useful to put in my resume and actually surprisingly fun. I learnt things I never knew before about coffee and I really enjoyed it because I love coffee myself! I had fun using the coffee machines because I actually always wanted to try and make coffee the proper way using the BIG machine. The two pro helpers that were there were very nice and very helpful, they provided us with everything we needed to make a cappuccino, latte and long black. Learnt many things throughout the whole day, the videos were helpful and very interesting. We even learnt how to clean out the tools and the pipes in the machines which was fun and a good way to end the day."
