PREP

Maths in Prep : Length

We have had so much fun this week in Prep learning all about length! We made our own paper chains and enjoyed some time in the sun, finding items that were longer, shorter and equal length to our chains!

Year 1

This week we went to the Tilley Garden and planted new seedlings with Dave. We learnt about how to handle the plants with care, how to plant them into the garden beds and to water them so that they can grow. We loved asking Dave lots of questions about our garden space and discovering the different foods that we can grow.

Planets

In Inquiry we are learning about Space and we have started to investigate the planets in our Solar System.  We wanted to know how far away each planet is from the sun so we used steps to model the relative distance and then drew each of the planets in chalk. We discovered that many planets are close to the sun but Neptune is the furthest away as it was right at the other end of the laneway!

Year 2

The Year 2 WL Class have continued their love of the Tilly garden. On Monday we planted corn, tomatoes and watermelon. The children loved the planting, discovering the various herbs, weeding, having conversations about the plants and watering. We are looking forward to an amazing harvest in 2022.

Planting with Dave

Last week, the Year 3 /4 students were give the opportunity to do some planting with Dave. This was a really fun experience and a nice way to learn about plants and the plans planted in our Heritage garden.

In groups we planted beans and baby corn and watered the sprouts.

We, 3/4C, learnt to be delicate with the plants, and to water them the right amount.

Dave was very kind, he said we could water the plants at any time of the day.

He also told us that some plants are edible, the little orange and yellow plant, a few of us tried it out but it didn’t taste too good according to them! It was funny though, we  all had a bit of a laugh!

We enjoyed our time in the garden and would love to come again.
