Deputy Principal's News

Dear Families,
The end of this week marks the first full week of face to face learning onsite for all students. It is great to see the students back playing with their friends.
Today is Remembrance day. We remember and pray for the lives lost in helping to protect us all.
All classes participated in a liturgy to commemorate this day led by Mrs Herbert and
the students in Year 5.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down and in the morning We will remember them.”
School Borrowed Devices - Remote Learning
During remote learning, we were in the fortunate position to send home with all students in Foundation to Yr 1 an iPad, and in Years 2-6 a Chromebook. By now all borrowed devices, charges, covers etc. should be returned to school. If you have yet to do so, please return this equipement by Friday 12th November.
If you have a device at home which has sustained some damage, either through wear and tear or an accidental drop, can you please send an email to the school to let us know as we are currently in the process of auditing and repairing all devices, in readiness for next year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on ccorio@stjamesbrighton.catholic.edu.au, alternatively on the school’s number: 9596 4766.
Return to School Transition - Information for Families
Although there has been the easing of many restrictions the latest school operations guidelines released on Monday 1st November from MAC’s still recommends that we continue to use staggered drop off and pick up times as well as keeping our cohorts in bubbles as much as possible. Therefore can I ask that you continue to use the timetable for drop offs and pick ups as communicated at the beginning of Term 4.
Drop off and Pick up.
If you have multiple children at the school please drop them all at the same time as the youngest child’s drop off time and pick them up at the youngest child's finish time.
The drop off and pick up points are in place regardless of whether you drive, ride or walk to school.
Further Information:
- There should be no students dropped off to school prior to 8:45am
- Students at recess and lunch times are using allocated playspaces to minimise mixing of cohorts.
- Classes are accessing learning outside of the classroom when possible but remaining with their own class.
- Specialist classes are being held in the classroom where practical to minimise the use of rooms by multiple classes.
We thank-you for following and co-operating with the information above.

COVID-19 Safety at School
At St James, we have put a number of strategies in place to reduce the risk of transmission. No one strategy is 100% effective.
Here are just some of the ways we are doing to keep our Students, School community, and Staff safe and well.
In light of current advice and in line with our School COVIDSafe Plan we ask that you respect and follow the following guidelines.
Summer Uniforms
A reminder that all students should be wearing their summer uniforms to school commencing Term 4. Wearing of the school navy legionnaire's cap or wide-brimmed hat is compulsory during terms 1, mid -late term 3,and term 4. If your child is unable to wear the correct school uniform on a given day, please inform your child’s classroom teacher.
Please refer to the following website, should you need to purchase uniform items https://nichollsschoolwear.com.au/
School Closure Days
Our next school closure day will be on Friday 3rd December. This day will be used to plan for the 2022 School Year. This day is also listed on the St James Parent calendar.
Service Victoria QR Code and Face Masks
We kindly ask that all parents, carers and contractors and volunteers check-in using the Service Vic QR code displayed and wear a mask when entering the school building.
Thank you.
Self Isolating during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Can we kindly ask that if you or your family are required to self isolate during these times, that you inform the school via info@stjamesbrighton.catholic.edu.au so that we can offer any assistance possible.
Social Distancing
Thank you to all parents and carers who are helping the community to stay safe and healthy by keeping 1.5m apart at drop-off and pick-up times.
