Principal's Message

Well good morning, good afternoon, good evening and good night!  (What movie did that come from?)

Welcome to the last newsletter of this year. Good grief it has been a roller coaster ride  - for 2 years!

I recall saying at the Year 12 Graduation dinner ….. bushfires, COVID, lockdowns, remote learning, floods and for good measure, an earthquake. Whilst we say it quickly and with tongue in cheek – all of these events have impact. Impact in so many varied ways on all of us ……………. so, thank you! Thank you for your resilience and your resolve to do the best that you can despite the events and circumstances that push back on us at times.

I will get 'all formal' and talk 2021 AIP (Annual Implementation Plan) targets. These are the targets that we set early in the year, aspirational goals if you like, we have pretty much 'nailed them all'. They cover the breadth of College life!

Teacher Judgements - All students will make 12 months growth, given 12 months of teaching.

Not achieved, but we have certainly made strong growth 😊

All students with an IEP (Individual Learning Plan) will achieve all goals set

Not achieved but my goodness we have been close! 😊

In 2021 we will have a mean English study score of 22

Easy, we are going to 'smash' this! I can’t wait until the 16th December to find out the actual score / mean. 😊

VCAL completion Rates Senior, Intermediate and Foundation

All targets met – almost 100% for each. 😊

NAPLAN targets

Met and the Year 9 growth was amazing!

Student survey results, particularly in differentiated learning and stimulating learning

Both increased and targets met 😊

Parent survey targets: Effective teaching and stimulating learning

All targets met😊

Staff survey: Collaborative planning and planning for differentiation

All targets met 😊

For the 3 surveys: student, parents and staff. They each have the same element around positive environment for learning

All 3 targets met😊

Participation rates in the 3 surveys – Targets was 90% for each

Parents sorry – didn’t get there but there is always next year. Students and staff 😊

Tutoring program

Growth targets met 😊 for all students

Attendance across each of the year levels

Didn’t improve this year, it stayed about the same as 2020. But, that was significantly up on the previous year, so I’m going to count that 'as a win!' 😊

Based on this evidence I am comfortable to say that we have had a really good year and I am excited about the opportunities for excellence in 2022.

None of this can be achieved without the excellent work of all staff and students at our College, so I very much thank you and appreciate the commitment and dedication.

As is always the case at this time of year, we have a number of staff who are moving onto new adventures in 2022. We need to say farewell and good wishes to the following staff.

(All staff will be recognised for their contribution to our College at our final meeting on the last day of term.)

We farewell Miranda Calderwood, Michelle Morris, Jamie Richmond, Aaron Johnson, David Hunter, Sharon Byrne, Hellen Ellet, Kaitlyn Peachey, Susan Long, Thomas Hardwick and Michael Cassidy.

We look forward to welcoming to the BSC team: John Hudson, Nora Chong, Nicholas Beare, Alexandra McCallister-Bills, Mark Chandler, Altina van Deventer, Rowan Fleer Stout, Peter Bennett, Stephane Ellul, Joanna Sheather, Maddy Felstead and Brittney Crellin.

Finally, I just need to say thankyou to all staff, students and the community for the 2 years past. Whilst the 'mountain' seemed enormous, overwhelming or even impossible at different times, I am very grateful to have the privilege of being Principal of our College.

I am excited about all that we have and can achieve together as we always drive for excellence and constant improvement.

Please stay safe and relax across the holiday period and I look forward to sharing your children’s education in 2022.

As always, happy to chat, just contact the office for an appointment.
