Senior School

It has been an exciting week in the Senior School! Despite the unusually cold and blustery weather, our Year 8 Students have participated in Day Camp activities from Monday to Wednesday, which have included abseiling and rock climbing, canyoning, prussiking, canoeing, bush-walking and more in our beautiful Blue Mountains National Park. After so many months in which our young people engaged only in online learning, it has been a joy to see them exploring the great outdoors together. A big thank you to our outstanding Wilderness Education Team for their planning and organisation, and also to our committed Tutors who have accompanied their classes on their adventures.

We are now looking forward with greater clarity to our end of year events and celebrations. It has been a pleasure this week to invite Year 12 parents to participate as spectators at our traditional Waterslide on Monday 6th December. After many months in which visitors have not been permitted on Campus at all, we are looking forward to welcoming parents back (within the rules of our COVID-Safety Plans). All students and parents will have received, in this past week, an invitation to our Senior School Presentation Ceremony. It is my hope that as we finish this school year together and look forward to 2022, we can do so with as many students and parents as possible, and I encourage parents to book their places promptly to facilitate our planning for this event.

Before we reach the end of 2021, however, we will be working with our Year 10 Students throughout Weeks 8 and 9 to help them prepare for the beginning of their senior studies with a Year 10 Preparation Program. In this program students will undertake a series of skills seminars including: Study Skills, Examination Skills and academic Note Taking Skills. In addition, students will be led through wellbeing activities and careers education. We look forward to seeing our Year 10 Students transition effectively into their Year 11 studies in the new year.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Max Lucas (Year 12, School Captain) who has been selected to attend the Rotary Youth Science Forum next January, in Narrabeen.

Max will be in illustrious company at the camp, as there will be two Nobel Prize winners in attendance, one of whom is Professor Peter Doherty, who was the first Veterinarian to receive the Nobel Prize.

Last Wednesday, Max was invited to speak about his passion for Science and his aspiration to be an Aerospace Engineer.  Max has been invited to return to Rotary after the camp to recount his experiences.

Special mention must be made of Luka Katrivesis-Brown, who encouraged Max to apply and who accompanied him on Wednesday.  Luka's elder brother, Griffin (Alumni, 2017) had previously been selected for this camp.  Luka and Max are pictured with Mrs Elaine Manners (BMGS Staff and Rotary's Representative of Youth Affairs) and Mrs Lora Stopic (Club President, Central Blue Rotary).

Congratulations, Max!

Mr. Owen Laffin
