Greetings from Julie

Trivia Night

It was wonderful to finally be able to come together as a community at the Trivia Night. A huge thank you to the teachers who worked hard to organise and run this event. I would also like to thank all those who attended for their extreme generosity in donating to this event and the funds raised. It was a lot of fun and showed how fortunate we are to have such a supportive community.

Illness

Please continue to be vigilant about not sending students to school when they are unwell.

1. If a child is unwell, even with the mildest of symptoms, they must stay at home

If a child becomes unwell during the day, they should be collected from early childhood education and care (ECEC)/school as soon as possible.

2. If a child has any of the symptoms of COVID-19 outlined below, however mild, they should get tested and they must remain at home until they receive their results:

fever

chills or sweats

cough

sore throat

shortness of breath

runny nose

loss of sense of smell or taste.

In certain circumstances headache, muscle soreness, stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea may also be considered symptoms.

For further advice:

call the 24-hour COVID-19 Hotline 1800 675 398

call a general practitioner

visit Getting tested for further information on where to get tested.

Mobile Phones

Recently there have been some queries about mobile phones and smart watches at school.

Note that this is a Ministerial policy formally issued by the Minister for Education under section 5.2.1(2)(b) of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic). This was announced in June 2019.

The policy states:

“For the purpose of this policy, “mobile phone” refers to mobile phones and any device that may connect to or have similar functionality to a mobile phone, such as smart watches.”

At Northcote Primary School, these devices are handed into the office at the start of the day and collected at the end of the day. The school is currently reviewing this policy.

Child Safe

Northcote Primary School is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. This will be the primary focus of our care and decision-making. Northcote Primary School has zero tolerance for child abuse and is committed to providing a child safe environment.

Take care and stay safe
