Reading and Viewing
Students will be exploring a series of digital texts that will integrate our religion and inquiry topics. The texts take students on a journey out of their own world and into the intriguing world of human diversity. They will read about people with different cultural, racial and belief systems. Related activities to enrich and relate this content understanding to themselves and the human dignity of others will be provided.
Writing
The focal point of writing this term will be writing to persuade. Students will be exposed to persuasive writing in a variety of modes. This will include opportunities to try different planning methods and use a range of language features while following this writing structure.
Speaking and Listening
To continue to support students in developing their capacity to speak confidently and with expression about an increasing range of topics they will be creating, producing and recording their own advertisement.
Maths
Number and Algebra
This term we will undertake a unit on
- The Four Operations using worded problems with single and multi-steps in real and imagined world settings.
Measurement and Geometry
We will focus on extending our understanding of:
- Location and Transformation
- Tessellation and Symmetry
- Area, Perimeter & Volume
Statistics and Probability
This area of mathematics provides an opportunity to describe and interpret different data sets in context and in digital media and elsewhere. Students will also be encouraged to transfer relevant factual content to use in their writing.
Religious Education
This term students will explore the Church’s understanding of human dignity in relation to spiritual, social, ecological and physical well-being. As well as reflect on ways to build just and compassionate relationships. Start typing your article in here...
Inquiry
Our unit this term is about the concept of social justice. Students will explore this concept through the principles of Economic Justice and Preferential Treatment of the Poor. This will include exposure to information about refugees and ethical consumerism.
Social & Emotional Wellbeing
Positive Coping
Learning activities in this topic provide opportunities for students to identify and discuss different types of coping strategies. Students will explore a repertoire of coping strategies and practice critically reflecting on their own choices while being exposed to alternative options. Activities introduce students to the concept of self-talk and practice using positive self-talk to approach and manage challenging situations. Positive self-talk is a key strategy for coping with negative thoughts, emotions and events.
