Cornerstone Chaplain

A note from Odette

It’s great to be amongst the familiar noise and activity of school again, with many students back. It almost feels like the last six weeks was a strange dream, except things are not exactly back to normal are they? We have all had different experiences, and to me the need to be kind and considerate remains critical. Some families really struggled in the transition to home isolation, others relished it. In the same way, some students and families are struggling with the return to normal school and life routines where others are simply picking up where they left off. The reality is there has been much change in a short time, and we all process change differently.  The need to be kind to ourselves, and gracious to others who may have a different experience from our own continues to be important. As always, please encourage your students that its ok to not be ok.  If they need some support I am available via email (odette.blennerhassett@cornerstone.education) or drop a note into the letterbox on my office door.

Have you heard of the school toilet project? It’s an initiave by student welfare champion Danielle Miller. Briefly, the concept is that toilet blocks are the least aesthetic area of the school but often the place where students head if they are upset. So why not put some effort into making it feel like a more cheerful, positive and comforting space? Here is a link for those interested in the details https://www.enlighteneducation.com/school-toilet-project/

I would love to get our College involved in this project.  If you or someone you know has some creative flair and would like to join me in investigating the possibilities, please get in touch!

Odette
