Junior School

Student of the Month

Grace Hodgson lives with her mum and her cat Pickles in the beautiful mountain top town of Castella where she hopes to see some snow in her backyard

this winter. In her spare time Grace loves to draw or work on anything art related. She also likes to roller-skate with her friends and play football. Grace plays football for the Yarra Glen Jets in the under 14's team.

Grace came to Healesville High School from Dixons Creek Primary and she has really enjoyed the freedom that has come with catching the bus and having more responsibility. At school her favourite subjects are Art, English, Japanese and Sport. When starting high school Grace was worried about being able to keep up with the homework, however, she’s happy to report that she’s actually doing very well and although she finds it challenging sometimes, it’s not nearly as bad as she anticipated.

Grace is a member of the Healesville High School Rookie Band where she plays percussion. She is committed to improving her skills as she is particularly looking forward to performing in the Rising Stars concert on Monday the 17th of June.

At the end of each year Grace usually goes away on holiday with her family to lots of different places so she is looking forward to this year’s trip and finding out where it will be.

Currently Grace isn’t too sure about what she’d like to pursue as a career so she is keeping her options open and taking advantage of every opportunity and experience.

We are incredibly proud of the way Grace has managed the transition from primary to secondary school. She is a wonderful addition to our school community and we are excited to be able to support and develop her learning.

Excellent work Grace!

Year 8 Fabrics

These students have been working on a series of  increasingly challenging tasks. They have produced doggy/kitty bandanas,

scrunchies, beanies and most recently a pair of shorts. They have done an excellent job of persevering and learning new skills along the way.

I am most impressed with how well they are now able to read and follow pattern instructions and document all their work in their books.

Year 7 Food

As a homework task students were required to write a postcard to Miss Jackson thanking her for the invitation to dinner. Apparently Miss Jackson is a fabulous cook and went to a lot of effort to prepare a two course meal. Students also needed to include a description of the sensory characteristics of the meal. Below are two samples of student responses:

Dear Miss Jackson

Thank you kindly for that delicious dinner of steak tartare and crème brulee last night. The tartare was perfectly seasoned, with the capers adding a nice sharpness to the dish, and the meat was chopped perfectly. The crème brulee was

sweet, creamy and deliciously rich. The top was caramelized to the perfect thickness and the smell was so warm and rich. Again, thank you kindly

Regards

Thank you for cooking that amazing dinner last week. I could tell you put a lot of time and effort into the two course meal that we ate. The minute you stepped out of the kitchen and into the dining room it smelt of freshly cooked pasta

and meatballs which was a great smell. All of the colours complemented each other and it looked amazing. It also tasted great because the tomato and onion went quite well with each other. But my favourite part of the night was when you brought out the chocolate mud cake. It looked like something off

Master Chef and was like a pillow in your mouth.

Thank you for the dinner and dessert.

Year 8 Mixed Football

It was a tough day at the office for our team at the Year 8 boys/mixed football interschool round-robin competition. All of our players battled hard throughout the day but in the end we were simply outclassed by bigger and stronger opponents from Lilydale High School and Upper Yarra Secondary College.

Our skipper Corey Agnew led from the front all day with his hard running and strong marking. Rhys Richardson and Reece Smith defended well in the key position posts and Nicky Millman continued to provide a good option up forward with some strong leads. Riley Cameron and Ru Brendish never gave up in the midfield and were ably supported by Ishie Stock and Mia Erickson on the wings. Although we never managed to hit the scoreboard in our three games for the day, the team enjoyed playing together and gave it their all until the final siren. Congratulations to all players on their efforts!
