Instrumental Music

The prestigious Hamer Hall in the Arts Centre, Melbourne, came to life as 750 young musicians and singers from 61 schools lit up the stage to perform this year’s North Eastern Victoria Region Youth Concert titled ‘Destination’ on Tuesday 28 May.

Rural and metro students worked together to showcase their talents and experience to an audience of 2,000 people.

Eight Healesville High School students were amongst those performing on the big stage and I was proud of their performances and, as always, amazed by the outstanding talent on display. Congratulations to those eight students- Amber Holland, Chloe Lorgelly, Eliza Hoiles, Taylah Chipperfield, Zac Scott, Lara Warner, Jeremy Roberts and Darby Chipperfield.

NAPLAN and examinations

Year seven and nine students completed three days of NAPLAN testing recently. All students who sat the tests were focussed, engaged and well behaved. Results are expected to be available in August and the data provided will allow us to assess our teaching programs and student progress, and reflect on the teaching and learning occurring. In particular, the year nine results, when compared with the year seven results of two years earlier, provide a clear indication of student academic growth and allow us to assess the effectiveness of our teaching programs in the areas of literacy and numeracy.

All students in Year eight through twelve will complete a series of mid-year examinations, with Year 10 and 11 commencing today. This examination period supports the school focus upon academic achievement and excellence, provides students regular opportunities to show their knowledge and skills in testing conditions, and prepares students to concentrate for longer periods of time without distractions.

We are committed to preventing child abuse, identifying risks early and removing and reducing these risks. We are proactive in enforcing the regulations surrounding working with children by ensuring that community members who work with children have a Working with Children Check.

Additionally, we expect all volunteers, contractors, trainee teachers and visitors to the school to read the Child Code of Conduct as part of the induction process.
