Chess Club

The Chess season has started at McCarthy Catholic College, with the staff challenging the students to a round of games over two successive Friday lunches. This opens the season for the chess club, as afterwards the players will play to see who will become the college's representative players. The staff vs student games was a huge success, with such games to occur at least once a term.

In March, McCarthy will start in the regionals as they take on O’Connor Catholic College, in Armidale. Afterwards, players will be travelling to other schools to play in a mixture of tournament and friendly games. Games against other schools occur throughout the year.

Chess is an ancient game, with direct links to the crusades during the Middle Ages. The game promotes thinking and risk taking skills as well as being fun to play. The chess club is open to both experience and beginning players. Those that join the club can do so as social or representative players. All players can travel to other schools to play against other players.

I invite those interested to be part of the Chess Club.
