Grade 5 and 6 House Swimming Carnival

On the 25th of February, Brighton Primary School had their Grade 5 and 6 House Swimming Carnival at BlueFit, Cheltenham.

The swimming carnival started off with our district team competing in freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke. All competitors were amazing.

It was a great success and we loved how competitive the houses were by cheering everyone on. The swimmers were extremely competitive and the noise was electrifying throughout the races, even more so when teammates come back with a ribbon.

Lots of good memories were made, especially for the grade 6’s as it was their final swimming carnival at BPS.

We would like to thank our class teachers, parent helpers, Mrs Pain and Mrs Travis for all their hard work in putting the carnival together.

As we can’t have assemblies at the moment, Mrs Travis presented the swimming shield at the end of the carnival. The results were…….

4th place Sorrento

3rd place Fairhaven

2nd place Apollo

1st place Lonsdale.

Congratulations to Lonsdale for their 2022 House Swimming Carnival win.

For our grade 4 students this was their first opportunity to compete at this level and all that entails with the excitement and the nerves! Whilst some of our grade 6 students were competing for the last time in a primary school swimming event.

The team was superbly led by our 2022 Swim Captains, Phoebe Scarff and Aaron Fisher both in and out of the pool.

There are 2 aspects to the competition, individual advancement to division for our first placed finishers and, also on a team level, to try to compete against the 7 other local schools to win the Seaside District Swimming Shield. I am incredibly proud to report that all the team's hard work paid off and BPS finished a creditable fourth.

Many thanks to our parent helpers, Fleur Delves, Pip Scarff, Fi Loorham and our teachers who guided, supported and cheered our team, Ms. Runciman, Mrs. Travis.

Also thanks go to our incredible support crew of parents and grandparents who all stayed to support the team and cheer them on.

At the end of the carnival we have 9 students progressing to the Division Final at Oakleigh Recreation Centre on the 21st March.
