Performing Arts

The last two weeks have been filled with so much fun and laughter during Performing Arts.

The Year 2 students created their own songs using percussion instruments and body percussion sounds. Each one of them confidently performed their songs in front of their class.

The Year 5 students have been working hard on their script writing and developing characters for their final performance in week 11. Their creativity has been incredible and I can’t wait to see the performance of their scenes.

The Year 6s have worked tirelessly on their music videos. They’ve choreographed dances, mastered their lip syncing skills and edited the footage. Again, I can’t wait to see the finished products in a couple of weeks.

Foundation, Year 1 and Year 3/4 students were all lucky enough to participate in the African Drumming workshop this week. Not only did the students learn to play the Djembe drum, but they also learnt about the West African country of Ghana, where Appiah the performer is from. He showed us an amazing flag dance and taught the students how to barter like he did when he was 10 years old selling fruits and vegetables in his village. Some children were too good at this :).

They all touched the flag to will peace to the world.

We sang along to many songs and meditated to the sounds of Appiah playing the Kora, a West African string instrument. The students were highly engaged and asked some great questions. The Year 2, 5 and 6 students will get to experience Appiah’s performance next week.

Warm regards,
