Shape in Maths

In Maths, we have been looking at different shapes and seeing what patterns we can make with them. We used different 2D shapes to make monsters, rockets and creative designs.

Perceptual Motor Program

In the Junior School we have begun our Perceptual Motor Program (PMP). This is a fun way to build coordination, balance and motor skills. We have loved walking along a beam whilst balancing bean bags on our head, crawling through tunnels, jumping over hurdles, pretending to be different animals and playing twister.

Year 1 and 2

Students in Year 1 and 2 have been developing their Maths skills and are well on their way to becoming little mathematicians!

Students were estimating, counting by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and drawing collections in Maths! Students loved working in pairs. They challenged and problem solved to use efficient ways to group their collections. There were some fantastic conversations around efficiency, estimating and rounding to the nearest 10 and 100.

Last week the Year 1s and 2s were a whirlwind of Magic in our first Magic Word Week. After weeks of perseverance and commitment in class and at home the children demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of their magic words at their level. Each child spent time one to one with their class teacher to read their own words. Each day throughout the term we are learning to read, write, find and play sight word games with our words. We will be celebrating magic word week again in week 11.
