NAPLAN ONLINE

As we know, NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment for students in Year 3 and 5, which will commence on Tuesday May 10th. This year St James is transitioning to NAPLAN online. The only exception will be that the Year 3 students will still complete the writing assessment on paper.

One of the main benefits of NAPLAN online is that it is adaptive. This means the test questions presented may become more or less difficult depending on a student’s responses.

Today the children in Year 3 and Year 5 completed the School Readiness Test, which was their first practice using the NAPLAN online format. Teachers and students learnt a great deal from the experience. Teachers will use this information to guide the preparation and support for students in the weeks leading up to NAPLAN.

Parents of Year 3 and Year 5 students will receive more detailed information about NAPLAN, via a letter. Families of Year 3 and 5 children are also invited to attend an online NAPLAN briefing on Wednesday 4th May, from 5.30pm - 6pm. A google form will be shared early next term to gather parent curiosities around NAPLAN. These parent wonderings will be used to tailor the information presented in the briefing.

SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY

Tomorrow, for the whole school closure day, staff will engage in a range of professional learning activities. These will include First Aid, discussions around positive behaviours for learning, assessment and Inquiry planning for Term 2.

We are sure the day will be a highly productive one for all! Thank you to our parent community for continuing to support the ongoing professional learning of all staff.
