OSHClub

What’s been happening at OSHC…

We've had so much fun over the past two weeks as we’ve continued engaging with our after-school clubs! Our goal of focus centred around developing a sense of belonging in the program through our relationships with peers, families and the community.

Mondays: Waste Warrior’s Club

On Waste Warrior’s Monday the children learned all about the importance of reducing waste! Saving some old socks from making their way to landfill, the children experimented with different materials as they made some awesome sock puppets. Vivie absolutely loved this experience- “I learnt that we can reuse things to make new toys”- Vivie, Grade 3. We also rescued some old coffee grounds to make some super cool dinosaur fossils! Vivienne did an amazing job of leading our club as she read the instructions and gave directions to her peers! Later, the children decided to create a brand new play area in our OSHC space- an amazing dinosaur park! Great work everyone!

Next week, we will continue to learn about recycling as we make tote bags from old t-shirts! If you have any old t-shirts, we’d love if you could donate them to us!

Tuesdays: Science Squad

Continuing to develop our curiosity and understandings about making a hypothesis and the effects of a reaction, the children really enjoyed making their own volcanic eruptions! Lucia thoroughly enjoyed this experience- “I learnt how to make a volcano and colour explosion!”- Lucia, Grade 3. Awesome job OSHClub!

Next week, we will build on our understanding of reactions as we get sticky and messy during our slime experiments!

Wednesdays: Mini OSHClub Bake Off Club

OSHClub mini bake off club has been super busy! For afternoon tea, we picked some fresh produce from the Tilley Gardens to make our own pizzas! Annabelle was so excited to see her favourite food on the menu Great work everyone for trying new things!

“I really like basil on pizza, it’s crunchy!”- Charlie, Grade 2

The children also had an absolute blast as they designed and baked their very own vanilla cake recipe. With very little help from our educators, the children made connections to previous cooking experiences as they selected the appropriate ingredients and proportions for the cake. It was great to see everyone working as a team together!

“I learnt that kids can do anything that adults can do!”- Charlie, Grade 2

Next week, we will extend on our teamwork and leadership skills as we bake some delicious ANZAC biscuits!

Thursdays: Sporting Superstars

Our Sporting Superstars club has some awesome cricket champions and handballers in the making! During handball, we learnt all about how to pass, throw and catch the ball for our gross motor development.

“I love playing this game”- Sofia, Prep.

During cricket, the children had a great time as they practiced their bowling, catching, fielding and batting skills! All the children learnt what it takes to become the ultimate Cricketing Champion! Congratulations to Iris and Charlie for winning our mini game of cricket this afternoon with 4 runs!

Next week, we will build on our gross motor wellbeing as we play the ultimate game of parkour pros!

Fridays: Art Masterclass Club

We’ve had an awesome time engaging with our brand-new Art Masterclass Club! Lidia explored her creativity as she learnt all about Clay Sculpting and Michelangelo. Check out her amazing ring!

“I learnt that Michelangelo was a sculptor. I also learnt that have to be careful with the sculpting tools as they can be sharp.” - Lidia, Grade 1

Next week, we will be learning about the artist Antoni Guadi as we make mosaic art!

International Women’s Day: Tuesday 8th March

On Thursday the 8th of March, we celebrated International Women’s Day! Together, we chatted all about what International Women’s Day means and why it is so important. Today we made gifts for strong women in our lives who inspire us and thought about what makes them so special to us.

Some thoughts from the children…“I don’t think it’s very fair that some girls don’t get to go to school”- Isabelle, Prep“The world has changed a lot for women- men used to rule everything and girls didn’t get to do anything!”- Iris, Grade 3
