Helping the Preps

At the beginning of this year, the Level 6 students went down to the Prep classrooms 10 minutes before recess and lunchtime and would help the Preps pack up their gear and get ready to go outside. Then, they would go outside with the Preps and stay with them to make sure that were happy and not alone.

The Level 6 students help the Preps settle into school and make new friends. By doing this, the Preps are feeling even more welcomed than before, and are really happy at school with their friends.

Here are the experiences from the Preps and the Level Six students perspective:

Preps Experience with Year 6

(Written with help from the Year 6's.)

Zara M PF - It was very nice to get the grade 6’s help and I felt safe. I will remember that I am safe and that I have grade 6 friends. Having the grade 6's with me made me feel happy and I learnt from them that I can be smart just like them.

Violet M PS - It felt good to the have grade 6’s help and I felt happy and safe. I will remember how they helped me. I learnt to be kind to other people just like the grade 6s. They made me feel happy.

Theo C PQ - I felt happy to get the grade 6’s help. I liked playing with them and I learnt to be kind to people. I also learnt the importance of putting my lunch away. I felt safe and protected when the year 6's were around.

Year Six students Experience with Preps

Morgan S 6C - Helping the preps was fun. My favourite part of playing with the preps was running around the oval. I remember when Year 6’s would help me and it gave me a taste of nostalgia helping the preps. Being back in a prep class made me feel like a giant.

Mia B 6J - My experience with the preps was fun and I enjoyed it a lot. I liked sitting down with the preps and talking to them. I will always remember helping out the preps if they were upset or alone and how I would make them feel better.

Sophia A 6P - My experience with preps was good because they looked up to me and I was able to help them. My favourite part was that I got the chance to make friends with them.  I will remember how good it felt to help them and I will remember how they looked up to me. Helping the preps reminded me of my first year of prep.
