Therapy Dog in training

What a ‘Stella’ Day!

At Mordialloc College you may see our ‘Therapy Dog in training’, Stella the Australian Terrier at work, so please come over and say ‘hello’.

Stella has been attending Mordialloc College since she was just a pup of 10 weeks old! She is now all grown up and at 8 months of age is loving her life at school. On Tuesdays and Fridays, Stella comes into classes to provide comfort and support for students returning to school from two years of disrupted schooling due to Covid19 restrictions. She helps reduce stress and provides a sense of connection in a variety of challenging situations.

Given the impact therapy dogs can have on student wellbeing, schools and universities are increasingly adopting therapy dog programs as an inexpensive way of providing social and emotional support for students. We are hoping Stella can commence official training soon and join our highly qualified wellbeing and support team at Mordialloc College.

In the meantime, look out for news about Stella’s ongoing visits, student interactions and training on the Mordialloc Facebook page and the Mordialloc College Newsletter.
