Welcome Back

Hello everyone and welcome back to Term 3. It’s going to be a busy one!

Year 10 Careers

This term Year 10 students are engaging in a Careers class every Tuesday. We are covering topics such as the VCE, the ATAR, course prerequisites, future pathways and of course VCE subject selections.

Students were all given a copy of the Herald Sun’s VCE Guide  lift-out last week so please do check that out. This week all students will receive VTAC’s Year 10 Guide. Spare copies of both have been placed in the Careers Hub at the top of the stairs in Blackhall.

Year 10 Work Experience

Year 10 students will be engaged in Work Experience during the last week of this term. Most students are on their way to having their arrangements finalised. Those who only need to submit their documentation are asked to do so ASAP. If you or your child are having difficulty with any aspect of organising Work Experience please do contact me immediately.

Year 12: VTAC and Tertiary Course Applications

VTAC has delivered their ABC of Applying  booklets which will be given to students this week. This booklet is a very useful guide to what is required from our Year 12 students over the next few months. It should be seen as a starting point for gathering information in conjunction with www.vtac.edu.au.

The VTAC Course Guide, once used to collect information on 2017 courses, is no longer published as a book. All data is now held online in the Course Search section of the VTAC website. The 2017 data went live over the weekend. This means that students are now able to search for potential courses with updated data.

Applications for courses open on Monday 1 August and ‘timely’ applications close on Thursday 29 September. Students are allowed unlimited changes to their applications, which extend well beyond this 29 September deadline; apparently the record is 1400 changes for a student last year! As such all students will be encouraged to submit preferences early, safe in the knowledge that they can change their minds.

I would like to take this moment to assure students and parents that they will be guided through all aspects of navigating their applications, including SEAS and Scholarship applications, which is now an entirely electronic process. We will assist students in creating their VTAC account this week. For those students and parents who wish to get a sneak peak of what is coming up please do look at http://www.vtac.edu.au/applying.html.

The new VTAC Course Search app will go live in early August. The data within it will be available both online and offline and may be an excellent way for students to gather information.
