For the last four years the staff at Arlington and Blackhall Kalimna has come together for a Winter Dinner. It’s a modest affair with those contributing favourite dishes and setting up a long table in the front rooms in Arlington house, but with the open fire, some candles and the lovely ambience of the old rooms it is quite a special occasion; a moment in the year to unite as one staff and we are all very proud to work in this unique School.
Earlier this year we hosted an information night for parents to come and hear about Preshil’s forthcoming adoption of the IB Diploma program in place of the VCE.
The response of those parents who attended was so positive many other parents felt they had missed out. Furthermore, our students, particularly those in Year 9 who will be the first group to progress straight through to the IB Diploma or Careers program in 2018, are eager to find out more.
So this is a very enthusiastic invitation to come and hear about our progress to date with the IB and our plans for the future. In a few weeks’ time the Secondary School will complete the process of becoming an authorised MYP School. Almost every teacher has now completed their training as a qualified MYP teacher and we are now a part of an international network of outstanding educators, committed to the highest standards of teaching practice. For our teachers this has been a very exhilarating journey and one to which we are ever more committed.
There will be two information sessions on Tuesday 16 August. The first is scheduled for 4.30pm and the second is at 7pm in the Secondary School Library. We hope this will mean that many students, teachers and parents will be able to attend.
Marcia is an outstanding speaker and an authority on all IB programs. She will be able to answer your questions and will certainly convince everyone of how the IB program is a holistic approach to education designed to suit all students. Many schools in Victoria position the IB as an elite program only suitable for the most academic students. This is simply not the case. For our students, already with several years of the same approach in the MYP, the IB Diploma is nothing more than a smooth continuation.
Please come with your questions and invite any other interested people to attend as well. We are excited and we want others to share this.
