Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition

Our Italian students went to the University of Melbourne recently to participate in a poetry reciting competition held by the Dante Alighieri Society. It was a great experience for our students, as they had a chance to spend a day in a different environment, very different from their every day school reality. We were in the magnificent old buildings of the University of Melbourne, they admired the architecture and commented on the benefits of attending university later on in life. It did have a positive influence on their young minds!

Also, they saw other school students competing for the same title and experienced that feeling of “healthy competition”, which is necessary to succeed in life. Of course, we paid a visit to the unique “Brunetti” Italian coffee shop, where we stopped and discussed the events of the day. While walking around Carlton, our students had a look at the past and new buildings in the streets, observing the many changes since the arrival of the Italian migrants during the Fifties. This is the topic of our next unit of work at school.

Our students were delighted to be there and that was clearly visible from the big smiles on their faces!

We now await the results of the competition from the judges and we hope we will win. Such a deserved victory after so much work!
