Heron Island Trip

Want to spend time on a tropical island paradise? Fancy a swim with endangered turtles? Ready to experience the colourful corals of the Great Barrier Reef? Well, the Heron Island trip is running in 2019 so this is your chance!
After three successful trips, the Heron Island trip will be running during the April school holidays next year. Join us and you’ll experience the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef first hand as you join an exclusive list of people lucky enough to stay on the world-renowned Heron Island Research Station.
On this beautiful island you’ll be introduced to the majestic underwater world that is the Great Barrier Reef – a World Heritage Site and one of the natural wonders of the world. You’ll learn how to snorkel, how to identify and classify marine animals and about the ecosystem of Heron Island – including watching baby turtles hatch and make their journey from the beach to the water (fingers crossed!).
Ready for an adventure? Read on for some important details:
- To come along you need to be currently in Year 9, 10 or 11 (so in 2019 you’ll be in Year 10, 11 or 12).
- You also need to know how to swim – we spend a fair bit of time in the water.
- We will depart from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) on Sunday 7th April and will return to Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) on Friday 12th April.
- All specialist equipment (mask/snorkel/fins/wetsuit etc) is provided by the Heron Island Research Centre.
- The cost of the trip is $2200 with an initial deposit of $500 and the balance payable via instalments. This price includes all flights, insurance, ferry transfers, meals, drinks and snacks – basically everything! The trip is fully catered with a dedicated professional chef on the island providing for our dietary requirements.
- No prior experience necessary – we’ll teach you everything you need to know. An interest in science is recommended as we run some experiments at the research station but a sense of fun and adventure is more important because you’ll have a blast experiencing one the most amazing places on the planet.
- Places are limited and will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
