TAS/VET News

Term 3 has been an extremely busy term in the TAS/VET faculty.  The Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber and the Year 12 Society and Culture class have completed and submitted their major projects and their Personal Interest Projects and all of the projects have now been marked by NESA. Our Year 12 classes have completed their studies and I would like to thank the TAS/VET staff for their continued hard work and their dedication shown towards their students.  I am sure the hard work of our students will be rewarded in December when the HSC results are released.  The Year 12 Hospitality students who have successfully completed their competencies have achieved either a Certificate of Attainment or their Certificate II in Hospitality Food and Beverage. Our Year 11 students have just completed their exams and I must congratulate them on their diligence leading up to the exams.

All of our classes have been engaged in many different activities throughout the term. There is always an array of tantalising aromas wafting from our kitchens ranging from our Year 7 workshops through to our Stage 6 classes. Our workshops downstairs are always a hive of activity and many functional and beautiful pieces of furniture and projects have been designed and produced by our students. Our Stage 5 Food Technology classes have produced outstanding assessment tasks and our Year 9IST class had a lot of fun with their Robot Wars assessment task.

Our collaborative learning spaces have been buzzing with activity this term.  The Year 8 STEM classes have been using the rooms to their full potential and it is fantastic to see other classes booking the rooms to use. It is always a hive of activity! The Year 11 Hospitality students have completed their first round of Work Placement this term with many of our students securing part time employment from their host businesses. Year 11 Hospitality will be running the café next term and it will be open for a range of espresso coffees, teas and light snacks before school, we will keep you informed next term about the days it will be operating.

Our Year 11 Hospitality students are to be congratulated on the outstanding work they did in catering for the Year 12 Graduation, the food was beautifully presented and served by our students. The Stage 5 Hospitality class must also be congratulated for their catering for a staff morning tea.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Crystal Reynen for her leadership of the TAS/VET faculty while I have been on leave. I would also like to thank Mrs Deanne Broughton who looked after my classes over the past month.

Year 7 Workshops for TAS

During Term 3, Year 7 Workshops in TAS have had a focus on Mazes & Labyrith’s. Through project based learning students developed their critical thinking skills while working through the design process. Students started by researching different Mazes – where they can be found and how to create them. They use take this knowledge and build a maze from straws and cardboard. Student’s then got to turn their creations into a yummy dessert – Pizza Mazes!
