Middle School Report

Middle School would like to wish Miss Carly Brien all the very best as she begins a new phase of her career in education. Miss Brien’s work in Middle School was truly innovative and we will miss the remarkable skills she brought to the classroom. Miss Brien has been replaced by Miss Tamara Sexty for the remainder of 2018 and we would like to welcome her to Middle School. Miss Sexty completed her schooling at Henry Kendall High School and it has felt very much like coming home.

Middle School students are busy working through modules as part of the $20 Boss Program in PBL. Students will spend a number of periods preparing for Year 7 Market Day in Term 4. This is a wonderful opportunity for Year 7 Middle School students to give back to our local community as all profits are donated to charity.

Global Awareness students have begun their study of History in Term 3 and have been busily developing their ability to analysis primary and secondary sources as well as their writing skills. Students have commenced their study of The Mediterranean World – Ancient Egypt and will be given their assessment task in Term 4, Week 1. Students will be able to make an artefact or item from Ancient Egypt using inexpensive and reusable materials.

Congratulations to Year 7 students on their innovative design items for Investigation and Communication. Mr Silver and Mr Banks have been impressed by students’ ingenuity and resourcefulness. I was very impressed with the confidence displayed during the speaking component of this task.

Middle School students should also be very proud of their poetry tasks in Human Relationships. Students have worked collaboratively to create a poetry anthology that showcases their creativity and capacity to analyse a range of poems. The finished products are amazing and students should be congratulated on their efforts. Students have begun a unit called “Choices” and this focuses on child protection and good health. Parents and caregivers who wish to discuss the program further should speak to Middle School teachers early Term 4.

It has been a very busy and rewarding term for Middle School students. Rest, recharge and get ready for a busy Term 4!
