Horsemanship 2016
The Victorian Interschool Championships was held at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre and involved hundreds of riders, horses and families during this school holiday competition from the 4th -8th April 2016. This interschool equestrian event showcases the talents of primary and secondary school aged riders. The event brings together both new riders commencing interschool competition and elite young riders aiming for selection to represent Victorian at the Interschool Australian Championships and it is a large and ever-growing force in the equestrian world. First competitions were held in 2008 and 1000s of children have enjoyed the event since then.
I would like to congratulate many of our young riders and their families who competed at this event and represented The Hamilton and Alexandra College demonstrating their skill, determination, dedication and sportsmanship. Thank you to our amazing Equestrian Captain Annabel Mould for her assistance, guidance, leadership and commitment over the week long competition. What a fabulous role model she has been for our young riders.
Congratulations to both Zara and Vienna Smith who have both qualified for the National Interschool Australian Championships which will be held in Sydney in September of this year. Zara qualified by placing 2nd in the 60cm Combined Training event (showjumping and dressage). Vienna Smith also qualified for nationals after she placed as the 3rd Overall Senior Champion in the show horse ridden and lead classes.
Congratulations also to Georgia Hodgetts who placed 1st in the one round showjumping stakes in the 75cm class and placed 10th overall in the secondary 75cm showjumping. Charlotte Cuming placed 8th overall in the 75cm showjumping and 12th in the 60cm Combined Training.
Our Junior riders had great success, Sophie Paton placed 4th in Handy mount and 2nd in Primary Novelties and also placed 10th overall in the primary 60cm showjumping. Eleanor Tehan also placed 8th in Primary novelties and 12th in Handy mount.
