Associate Principal, Operations Report

Staffing

Further to previous advice, I advise that Mr Paul Carroll and Mrs Fran Agar have deferred their Leave by a term.  Each will remain at school for Term Two to ensure processes are fully established for remote learning, given we may need to continue in that manner.

Mr Rob Drummond will return to the College to replace Mr Carroll in his Geography classes during Term Three and Mrs Erin Parker will be here in Mrs Agar’s Extra Studies/Language Skills place in Terms Three and Four.

Students and Staff:Remote Learning

It was pleasing to see how well many students and staff coped with the first day of remote learning on Monday.  It was a shame that this ended up the only day with the early calling of school holidays by the State Government.  Having conducted a review meeting with staff later in the day, I learnt that Teams meetings are much more manageable than I expected and would have been keen to try my new skills out with my Year 10 English class had there been opportunity!  Should I get the chance  next term, as seems likely, they had better be prepared!

International Students

Many parents will already be aware that we offered our overseas students the chance to return home late last week and most have elected to accept that offer.  Our students have returned to China, Hong Kong or Cambodia already, where they are in isolation. At the time of writing one student was still in the air but the others are in their home countries.  A small number were able to arrange to stay with family members or family friends in Australia.  We are thinking of them all and will be endeavouring to help them continue their studies – many are in Year 12 – from a “more remote” remote location.
