Harmony Day

As you will read in this edition, Harmony Day saw our school community come together to pledge what we can do individually and collectively to make our school environment one where  empathy and unity are embedded.

Through the efforts of the student fundraisers such as the casual clothes day and barbeque, students and staff raised $3800 to support the victims of the New Zealand shootings.

Thank you our many families who also provided donations to this cause, adding to the school contribution.

Strategic Plan (2019-2022)

In Term 4 2018, the school undertook a School Review which formed the basis of setting broad goals and key improvement strategies for the next four years.

Following consideration of student, parent and teacher feedback and  assessment of our achievements against the previous strategic plan targets, our main work over the next four years will fit under the following three goals:

  • Improve learning growth for all students
  • Empower students as active agents in their learning
  • Enhance wellbeing and connectedness for all students

Under each of these goals we have set Key Improvement Strategies (KIS) and then  decided on further actions which will lead to the attainment of set targets. For example, the KIS developed to improve learning growth for all students are to:

  1. develop and embed an agreed, research-based instructional model
  2. implement a Professional Learning Community methodology across the school
  3. build teacher capability to ensure clarity and consistency of instructional practice

By teachers working together and implementing these strategies, we hope to achieve targets which we have set around VCE results, NAPLAN growth, as well as student, parent and teacher feedback data.

This year the school will focus on work which is most closely related to learner growth and enhancing wellbeing.

Website Upgrade

We have engaged a web design company to work with us developing a new website.  We look forward to publishing this in the near future and improving the delivery of information to current and prospective families and the wider community through this important communication vehicle.  Our Strategic Plan (2019-2022) will be located on the website along with other important school policies and documents.

Year 7 2020

We held a very successful Open Night on Monday, May 29, which followed the well attended School Tours that were held throughout Term 1.

We are pleased that the interest in our school has been so strong and I hope all  current members of our school community join me in feeling proud of this too.

Assemblies

Over the last two years we have held an assembly on the last day of every term  in order to celebrate student achievement.  Parents are welcome to attend these assemblies and can sign in at the General Office prior to the start time. These assemblies are now embedded as an important part of the school culture of Brunswick Secondary College.
