Primary School

From the Head of Primary

What a busy week we have had! Our teachers have been incredible in supporting so many experiences for our students from Horizons to the Interhouse Cross Country event, orienteering and their usual busy teaching schedules. We welcomed Ms Carys Nichols back to GSG this term as our Year Four teacher and are very excited about what she will bring to our community. Ms Diletti and Ms Le’Floch have made a fabulous start in Year Two and have been collaborating with Mrs Gouldthorp in Year One for some shared learning experiences. Next week we begin our Stretch and Challenge Mathematics programme whereby our Pre-Primary to Year Six students will be placed into groups according to their abilities in the four mathematical operations and may even be given the chance to be taught by a different teacher. We also have 80 VACS students from Years Ten to Twelve assisting at this time as Mathematics tutors.

Maths Relay

On Friday during our pastoral care rotation time, students from Years One to Six will participate in a Maths Relay challenge. The ‘batons’ will start in Year One where students will be tasked with a Mathematics problem-solving task and once solved, the House will be able to pass the baton to Year Two where members of that House can begin their task. This continues until the batons make it to Year Six where the students rush out and raise their House flag on completion. House points will be on offer for this academic challenge. Students are encouraged to wear their House shirts if they wish.

Tennis News

Well done to Denby Sharpe (Year Six), Dylan Stone (Year Six) and Ando Gatti  (Year Six) who were all successful at the Country Championships in Perth over the holidays.

Denby won his division of U14 Boys Singles and was also awarded the Henry Ladyman Memorial Trophy for the Junior Boys Country Singles Champion. Well done to Dylan and Ando who were finalists in the U14s.

Walk or Ride to School Day

Our first Walk to School Day is coming up on Friday 12 May (Week Three). We would love to see as many parents and students as possible parking their cars and walking or riding to school from Coraki Park. Please meet us there by 8.00am. Staff will be assisting with the walk by either walking, riding or ferrying bags back from the park. Muffins and milos will be waiting at the Library upon completion. A shuttle service for parents to go back to the park to collect their cars will depart at 8.45am from the school.

Outside School Hours Care (OSHC)

A reminder that OSHC will begin on Monday 15 May in our Kindergarten classroom, 3.00pm to 6.00pm, for Kindergarten to Year Six. Students can do both OSHC and Horizons. Ms Preity Dhaliwal, from The Village OSHC, will be in the ECC foyer tomorrow (Friday 5 May) at drop-off time to answer any questions you may have.

For booking and enrolment enquiries, please contact Preity on 0466 080 593 or preitydhaliwal@gmail.com.

School Values

Our values focus for the fortnight has been commitment, very pertinent with the strict morning fitness programmes and Cross Country prep. Well done to the following students who received values certificates for commitment: Ava Murnane, Wesley Jenkins, Saakhi Mann, Atticus Sprigg, Leah Scott, Samantha Cooper, Maggie Lester, Blythe Marmion and Abbie Cameron.

ECC Stars of the Week: Mackenzie Maynard, Pippa Hancock, Wesley Jenkins and Teddy Davison.

2023 ‘RUOK?’ Whole School Interhouse Cross Country

A huge thank you to Mrs Deb De Jonge and Mr Paul Osborne for organising a fantastic Cross Country event with perfect conditions, weather included. We have worked hard to establish a House camaraderie this year and it was wonderful to see the students cheering each other on and pushing themselves to do their House proud. Many of our teachers and education assistants were also spotted running and supporting our students to maximise enjoyment and participation. Well done to Wilson for finishing first overall and to all of the students who received medals.
