A reminder!  The P&F is pleased to present a special guest speaker to GSG. Amy Coombe has been featured in the news media and has experience sharing her story and presenting to schools across Australia. Amy will visit GSG on Wednesday 10 May.

Amy has battled and recovered from her own eating disorder and sheds light on the hot topics, issues and challenges our youth are facing in today’s society.

Parent Presentation

Amy will offer a parent presentation courtesy of the P&F which will include a Sundowner, commencing at 5.30pm.  There is an opportunity to share a few drinks and light refreshments before Amy speaks to us all. Save the date now!

Amy's parent presentation focuses on how we can support our children to learn how to manage our negative thoughts and emotions, how to handle bad moods and tough days, worrying about what others think of us, stress, friendship issues, bullying, anxiety, self doubt, body image, comparison and fitting in.  You will leave with practical strategies and advice about how to support your child/ren.

Amy will talk to students during the school day. Sessions will be offered for students in Years Four to Twelve, with each presentation tailored for the age and stage of students. Amy's presentations will be full of easy and practical tips and strategies to increase resilience, strengthen our mindset and focus on our personal wellbeing within the small moments of everyday life. Students will leave with a very clear understanding on how to not only notice the signs within themselves and others when they're no longer thriving, but how to help themselves and others cope through it with simple tools and strategies.

Noongar screenwriter and director Dot West

Last Friday morning, Grammar’s Indigenous students and Years Eleven and Twelve English students had a visit from Noongar screenwriter and director Dot West. Dot West was in Albany as part of CinefestOZ, which showcases many premieres of feature films and events. She is the director of Broome-based Goolarri Media Enterprises and Ramu Productions. Based in Broome, Dot West is a passionate advocate for Indigenous media. She has 30 years experience in radio, television and film with some well-known television projects including The Heights and award-winning children’s animation series Little J & Big Cuz. She spoke about her career with writing and bringing characters in a story to life through the small screen. She encouraged students to just put pen to paper when coming up with stories to write about. Dot’s contribution to the film industry has won her recognition and numerous awards throughout her long successful career.

Student sickness

As we head into the cooler months we have had an increase in the number of students who are unwell.  Please ensure you keep your child at home if they are unwell as we don't want to share their illness with the rest of the community.  If students are unwell at school they may be assessed by the Nurses who will contact parents or guardians to collect students as necessary.  Thank you for your support.
