End of Term Wrap Up

Well it has been a very busy, productive and fun term at HEPS!

We really value the feedback we get from our parents and the school community, and one thing we’ve heard in the past is that our families would love for children to have more opportunities to go on excursions and camps.

Our staff have been super organised this year and have planned a number of events that not only add to the learning, but also let them bond with students from other classes as well as have fun! Even though it is a lot of work (and can be stressful) for our teachers, they always say how much they love seeing our students’ personalities shine in these more relaxed settings.

We understand that extra costs can be tough for families, especially in the current economic climate. That’s why we do our best to keep the costs as low as possible by subsidising the events with funds from the Governing Council and setting aside money in the school budget. We also encourage families to set up payment plans if needed.

Positive Behaviour for Learning Project

We are privileged to have been selected as 1 of 40 schools across the state to trial a framework for supporting student behaviour over the next 3 years.

The Positive behaviour for Learning framework provides professional learning for school teams. Schools then develop a process for teaching social and behavioural skills that will help us to refine our positive, proactive and systematic approach based on school data.

Outcomes of this include:

  • Developing a school environment that is positive and supportive
  • Ensuring expectations are consistent and clear to all (including parents/carers)
  • Students being consistently taught expected behaviours
  • Expected behaviours are consistently acknowledged.

At Hackham East we are already a long way down the track with a number of these aspects, but we welcome this opportunity to refine and add to what we do and to continue to build on our high expectations around student learning and behaviour.

We will continue to share information about our journey and seek feedback from families along the way.

Wishing all of our families a happy, safe and relaxing holiday break and look forward to seeing you all in Term 2.

Kind regards,

Ms Sally
