Once upon a time a duck was swimming in a pond on a sunny day.

A snake saw the duck and the duck looked good.

The snake bit the duck suddenly. The duck got super powers.

Super Duck is trying his super powers out.

Super Duck hears a girl calling for help.

She is in quick sand.

Super Duck grabs the girl’s hand and…pulled her out, with his super strength.

The End

Congratulations to Anna B, who was number one in the Southern Metropolitan Sports Region Championship and number 11 overall in the Victoria Diving competition: Girls 9-12. She has done incredibly well, especially considering she is 8 years old!

Prep and Grade 1

This term in Prep and Grade 1 our science unit will be exploring ‘Australian Animals’ – we can’t wait to learn about habitats, adaptations and other facts that we can learn from reading and writing information texts. In Mathematics, students will be exploring Addition and Subtraction. These will be linked to everyday concepts such as money and measurement. You can help at home by involving your children in everyday routines such as counting pocket money; measurements for cooking; comparing item costs on shopping dockets. We are already very excited about our upcoming excursion to the zoo!

Oliva (1B)

"Dusty is our class Teddy bear. I took him home for the weekend. I took him to Mary Poppins. I also took him to my swimming lessons. He didn’t go in the pool, he just watched me. I went to the park with my friends and he came too. We took a photo with him on the flying fox. I put the photos in a book and I shared it with the whole class. The best thing about taking Dusty home for the weekend is we went to see Mary Poppins and had dinner. I think Dusty enjoyed Mary Poppins too”

Grade 2

This term in Year 2 we are exploring the lives of different activists and how they helped change the world for the better. In our literacy learning we have been reading and writing poetry and learning lots of rhymes. Later on in the term we will be studying images to build our visual literacy skills. In maths we have begun our unit on addition and subtraction and we are building our toolkit of strategies (such as doubling, bridging to ten) and have been working on our fact fluency.  As the term continues we will be working on our teamwork skills in games and group work, making sure we are always exhibiting the Six Rs (the school values). We are learning about 'perspective', and that we don't always see the same things in the same way.

  • This term also sees the start of our popular and rewarding book clubs!

Spelling

The Spelling Mastery program continues: This program combines phonemic, morphemic, and whole-wordinstruction to make spelling more systematic and more meaning focused!

Maths

  • Addition and subtraction
  • Area and Perimeter
  • Times Table Challenge!

Inquiry

Linking in with our writing unit, this term we will focus on Earth sciences, including an exploration of how the rotation of the Earth causes night and day, and how the Earth’s surface changes over time as a result of natural processes and human activity. An Excursion to Scienceworks is guaranteed to inspire our enquiring minds, and spark even great curiosity for how the world works.

Grades 5 and 6

Grades 5 and 6 have an exciting term of learning ahead:

Writing:

Director’s Study: Students will watch the movie Rabbit Proof Fence and unpack the themes and 'big ideas' as well as analyse the film techniques used by the director to tell the story and engage the viewer.

Persuasive texts: Year 6 students will participate in a debating unit while Year 5 students will focus on different types of persuasive texts.

Reading:

During Term 2, we will refine our Reader’s Workshop model. Mini lessons will focus on exposing students to a range of reading strategies as well as different text responses. Students will participate in reciprocal reading groups using non-fiction texts.

Maths:

Units of measurement: Students will be creating a floor plan for their own ‘Tiny Home’ which allows them to explore concepts like area, perimeter and volume along with sustainability.

Addition and subtraction (Big Idea): During this unit, students will be exposed to a range of written and mental strategies and then have the opportunity to apply these to a range of open ended problems. Students will also explore the concepts of estimation and rounding as well as the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction.

Shape: Students will examine the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, use nets to create 3D shapes and draw different views of shapes.

Inquiry:

Earth Sciences: Students will explore the solar system as well as natural disasters such as volcanoes and tsunamis.

SEL:

Respectful Relationships and The Resilience Project: We will focus on the positive coping and problem solving units from Respectful Relationships as well as mindfulness and emotional literacy lessons from The Resilience Project.
