GET WILD ABOUT READING!
(AN UPDATE ON THE VICTORIAN PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE)
The HSC Library is looking forward to an exciting Term 2 with so many diverse books coming into our main collection awaiting avid readers and those just starting to discover the magic of being transported into another world through reading.
Thanks to the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge that gives an opportunity for young people “to let their imagination run wild” while reading and improving their literacy skills.
Did you know that last year, nearly 75,000 children read over 2.9 million books, and 57 million books read by 4 million young people since the Challenge started in 2005!
Come to the Library and get your login details and visit the Challenge webpage to register:

WELCOME TO THE HIGHVALE WRITERS’ CLUB!
Time has quickly flown. This time last year our Wednesday Silent Reading Club was born and we could not be more proud of how our students have responsibly behaved as engaged and productive learners while they read for pleasure and sometimes do private study in their shared learning space.
This Term 2, we are introducing the Highvale Writers’ Club to give student agency and inspire them to express their creative side by writing poetry, personal reflections, drawings with positive messages, mini stories (and even book reviews) that can be put on display in the Library Literary Corner or published in our Newsletter.
CALLING FOR HSC ARTISTS TO DESIGN OUR HIGHVALE WRITERS’ CLUB POSTER! For those creative minds, please submit entries to the Library. No particular rules, just be creative with a positive message to inspire everyone to write. Start exploring your creative side and produce amazing literary pieces to spread positivity, cultivate values and inspire confidence. |
Congratulations to Riddhi J (10.3) for being our very first Literary Content Creator in Term 2 for the Highvale Writers’ Club with her poem “When my mind is filled with notions” and original painting.
When my mind is filled with notions (by Riddhi J)
When my mind is filled with notions
I do not know whom to go to
There are so many emotions
But no place for them to vamoose.
I wish there was a magic force
When my mind is filled with notions.
Such magic that would shut the thoughts
And detach me from commotion.
But there’s no such thing as potions
Though I do not let myself weep.
When my mind is filled with notions
I embrace things that bring me peace.
To search for light in the darkness
Is a must when feeling broken,
And that is what brings sereneness
When my mind is filled with notions.
